I got my new snap-on tool box the other day to replace the one I lost in the fire. Its a piece of sh!t compared to my old one. I am not happy with it at all. It puts me in mind of the Sears tool boxes that I wouldn't buy 25 years ago. Is their nothing of quality anymore?

Snap-On spends a lot of time resting on their laurels. Believe it or don't, Harbor Freight has some pretty decent toolboxes that won't break the bank.

For the truly top-of-the-line, I'd be looking at Lista, Vidmar, or Rousseau. Those drawer slides can handle 400 lbs. each.

I bought a master built? 48" upper and lower from menards. Paid 700 for both. For the $ I haven't found a better one. Ball bearings drawers that I've thrown plywood on and used as workbenches many times.

Ive looked at those myself at Menards, master force I think is the brand. It seems there are a lot of "off" companies in the last few years that actually started making decent built toolboxes. I have a Sears that I bought in 1987. It was less quality than ones a couple of years before. I was disappointed. If I had to buy a new one I wouldn't pass the one up at Menards.

I see used Snap On and Mac boxes bring strong prices at auction because the quality is better than some of the newer stuff.

Bought my tool boxes at Lowe's. Kobalt and they compare favorably with everything else I've seen. Upper/lower stainless cabinet and 48" wide chest were around 1K all together. Not a bad deal for all the space.
Put flooring plywood on top of chest unit for work surface since the top of it didnt look like it would stand pounding or heavy parts.

Haven't seen a newer Snap On in a while, place I used to work the guys have been buying the big Matco and Mac benches, they look good and solid.
I still have a 1968 top box craftsman and my 1981 Snap On but I like the looks of those big Menards boxes.

Wow :( Snap-on junk. My Craftsman five drawer is still holding up, new in 1968. Pushed is around 13 acres under roof Rockwell shop for 30 years. Of course I put a angle iron frame around it and better wheels.

Now it sits in my garage with zero miles :)

Snap on is way over priced and a lot of their tools have gone down in quality. The set of screw drivers I bought from them is a good example, junk.

I"ve got a Lista and a large Kenedy box. Both are tanks compared to anything else I"ve seen. I have Vidmar that is great. I got a couple when our plant shut down. I suspect that they were expensive...

I would like to find some parts for my older Snap on. Snap On dies not even have drawings anyore. It is from themid 60's. J.

Have the Menards 48 inch upper and lower master force and have been very satisfied with it! Like the ball beg drawers! My old snap on from the 70s has been a good box but don't think it is as good as the master force!!!

Check this out www.storloc.com . Made in Kankakee IL. I've seen at a farmers shop and farm shows. Not cheap. I've seen 300lb guys sit in the drawers. They will custom make to your size.

It seams like nobody takes pride in what they build today all they think about is the all mighty dollar.

OR, the consumer is focused on the cheapest price instead of quality products.

I looked at a Snap On- Harley Davidson box at the pawn shop tonight. It was not a great tool box,(must have been built for a home shop market) my thirty year olds are made a lot better.
