does anyone know what to use to drill armor plate. Bought a piece a used plate at a scrap yard thinking it was mild steel plate. Butt now i cant find anything that will touch it when trying to drill it. I am not for sure this is armor plate but don"t know what else it could be. Thanks

Its probably inconel, pretty hard stuff, can't cut it with a torch. Probably need to go a specialty machine shop to get it cut. Lubricated carbide saw blade,or maybe abrasive water jet.

It Could be Wear-Con. If one side looks like scales or even, perhaps, roof shingles that is more than likely what it is. The back side is mild steel but it has super hard surface on the front. I don't know what you want to do with it, but drilling is more that likely not going to happen feasibly. You can blow a hole in it with a plasma cutter, but you will go through consumables like crazy if you have more than 3 holes or so.

Buy a carbide center drill, #3 size, then buy a carbide drill bit. (how big of a hole?)

Lots of oil, slow speed, like 300 rpm, are you using a drill press or milling machine?

It cuts good with a torch and i have even welded on it i just cant drill it.I bought a carbide drill bit 13/64 wont touch it but it will drill threw a frame rail.

That must be what I dug out of a scrap bin several years ago. It was the exact dimensions I needed to to finish a project, except for being a little too long. I fired up the torch, but the torch wouldn't touch it. I'd never seen anything like it. It went back into the scrap bin.
