Too many tools

I conquer. I think a shop should come complete with a personal assistant. Somebody to pick up after me and wipe those tools down. Maybe the assistant could support a broom in the down time. Oh and log the bolt bin inventories to make sure we have what we need. And where did I lay one a dozen flashlights or tape measures. Also, if we can google almost any question why did I have to search for a carburetor the other day for over an hour and a half. When it was sitting in a box complete with all the other tune up parts for the same tractor. Nope not to many tools, to little memory for me

To many tools? And I suppose your wife's to pretty, your kids to smart, your car too fast and your truck hauls to much!

I'v got a personal assistant, at least part time.

Didn't ask for him, he just sort of adopted me. Trouble is, he doesn't speak a word of English, I don't speak a word of Spanish!

When he puts my tools and parts away, it's anybodys guess where he puts them! LOL

Not possible to have too many tools. I have complete set of tools in pole barn, another set in work shop, and truck is a tool box on wheels.

What gets me is that it takes so many tools to do a simple job anymore. Standard, metric, torx. Everything is so hard to get to, you have to have wobble sockets and extensions, flex head rachets, rachet wrenches, pullers and all sorts of specialty tools and the list goes on and on. I doubt if I could replace all my hand tools at todays costs for $50,000.

If you feel the need to put them away - then I assume you first took them out for something and needed them?

When it comes to owning tools - some's good, more are better and too many is just enough. I can't go into any store that sells any U.S. made tools without buying something !

When I cleaned out my toolbox a few years ago and found 47 assorted screwdrivers, 29 crescent wrenches, etc., I decided maybe it was time to simplify things a bit.

You never have enough tools. I'm retired, just play around here. I have 4 tool chests, 8 top boxes, one mid box and several smaller boxes. They are all full and I'm still looking for more. When I die, My daughter will have a big sale and make a lot of $$.

I bought a manufacturing plant. We have so many tools that we need several paople to manage them.

Biggest issue is our maint. guy who NEVER puts anything away. He can"t seem to find the right tools next time he needs them.

I can understand the memory part. You know it"s bad when you go buy a tool for a job, and use it, only to discover you already had the required tool.

LOL - Not in my bedroom - But under my desk in the den, I have a NOS cylinder block for a 1941 JD B. Still in the box.
I did promise to give that and a lot of other JD parts to someone for a 4H project.

Good Afternoon Ted

Right after I retired from the Service I started to work in A Small Engine Repair Shop . I made the mistake & told my Wife that I had all the tools that I would ever need. Bad ,Bad mistake , She never forgot it.
When I started to buy the Special tools that I wanted She remember what I said . Try explaining that to someone that doesn't turn wrenches.

When my wife says that she made too much gravy, I tell her that it impossible to make too much gravy.

Same goes for tools: It's impossible to get too many!

Gee, all you need is a big hammer, small hammer, metric adjustable wrench, and a pair of visegrips. Then you can get rid of all those extra ones. Oh, need a screwdriver ,too.

You know me?

and how come.... no matter how many tools you have, there are always
some on the list to buy/make?

wiping tools down and putting them away at the end of a tough job is always good for me.
Gives me a chance to talk to the fixed machine a bit.
"told you, you might as well give up.....I'm going to WIN"

Hello Ted in HE-OH,

Its like having too much money and to much horse power....NEVER ENOUGH!!!

Guido.

Bob:

Sounds like it's time to replace that old worn out Maint. guy for a newer model that understands the value of putting the tools away clean & in their proper place.

NEIADan:

That's why they created COMPUTERS, so we wouldn't have to keep all that kind of info in our heads.

Now, if I could just remember how to work this damn computer . . . .LOL!

(quoted from post at 18:11:54 04/17/14) I think I have too many tools as at the end of the day it takes too long to put then all away.
