Kids went looking for old stuff to use for their yard. They found an old oil barrel...the end says..The Barrel Oil Co Saint Paul, MN 2805 6-15. It is a steel barrel has a taper...bottom and top is smaller than the middle. Any ideas if this company is still around? Thanks joe

In 1980, Burlington Northern railroad was still
getting bulk diesel lube oil in barrels like
that, shipped in boxcars from Mobil and Sinclair.

Be careful about using them for shop stoves, the one that I have like that is Galvanized inside & out. Better if you can find the older style "Hogshead" (60 gallon) drums with the I-beam hoops on the outside. Easier to weld legs to the hoops, no chance of burn-through on the sheet-metal.

The most common are embossed Standard Oil Company.
Much heavier gauge than a regular drum. And not galvanized.
They used to be pretty common at petroliana swap meets until everyone figured out they're fairly common and not worth much.
