Bathroom remodel - Scope creep

Had some leftover 12x12 ceramic tile from a 2nd house I bought and remodeled. Figured I'd use it to redo the floors in our master bath and main bath at home since there were some cracks in the 4x4 tile (27 yrs old) in both rooms and the material was "BASICALLY FREE" (or at least paid for). Used leftover mortar and grout but had to buy the matching wall trim tile (well that's $100, not bad for 2 new floors).

Got the master bath done, tore out the main bath floor. Tub had some chips in it so decided to replace the tub ($$). That meant ripping the tile off the walls in the tub area. Didn't have enough leftover tile for the walls, so need to get more to match ($$)Well, the shower doors were old, so we might as well replace those ($$$). Need to get durock for the walls($). Oh, oh. Removing the mud base on the walls means the old faucet valve is too long. Need a new valve($$). Need to get a faucet to fit the new valve($$). Plus, the new valve needs to have the copper pipe rerouted. Did you know that 45 deg 1/2" Street elbows are over $2 apiece!? Oh, look, they've got these wall insets you tile over for the soap and shampoo($$). Gonna need new wallpaper or paint to match the new tub tile ($). The counter top is looking kind of shabby now against the new tile, you know granite is the new thing ($$).

You get the picture. That "FREE TILE FLOOR" in the main bath is creeping up over $ 1000. Really have no one to blame but myself but my checkbook kind of wishes I just replaced the cracked floor tiles and patched up the chips in the tub. :(

You're getting off cheap. A typical tub replacement, new faucet, and tile above the tub is well over $3K if you hire it done.

Boy does that sound familiar. I thought I had mine under control until the new cabinets found their way into the equation. It was the right thing to do, but painful nonetheless....

I just replace the rotten boards in the outhouse,
and sand 'em smooth. Don't need fancy pre-planed
wood fer that.

When I started the bath project, I saw part of an "Alaskan Frontier" episode where the young pregnant lady wanted a new "round" outhouse. Was so excited and happy about her "wonderful" husband accommodating her. When I started to say something about it, wife just gave me the "look". Knew better than to continue my "look how good you've got it compared to these people" comments.
