GE electric oven

I bought a new bake element for it, and when I got into it, I found that the connector on the hot side must have overheated. The element had a hot spot at the connection too. I cut off two inches of the wire and reconnected the stab-lok, but the new element will not come on. Does anybody have a tip about how to locate a wire harness for GE ovens?

Go to searspartsdirect.com and see if you can look up a parts list for the appliance by model #.

IF you can find it and IF the part is available/part # is listed, GOOGLE it for a lower-cost supplier.

The last time I did that, I needed an element for a Sears (GE) and a seller on Amazon was MUCH more reasonable, and I had the part in two days.

Are you sure it's the harness? Cutting off the bad wire should have been sufficient to correct the wire problem.

Could be a control board or relay.

This is for a 27" GE self clean wall oven. It's for a Model JKP27. If you check the plate on the oven cavity when you open the door, you can see the model number of yours. Like what was stated, searspartsdirect.com will list all the parts for it.

It is not a good idea to reuse a crimp-on terminal on a heating element. You want to get a high heat one made of tungsten. your local hard ware should have them.

I wouldn't order any more parts until I was certain which is at fault. Pretty simple to narrow down with a VOM if you are familiar with doing it. If it's not something you can do,it's much cheaper to load it up and take it to a tech instead of having him come to your home.

Thanks for all the ideas. This is a 30" wall oven, and I suspect it may be something besides the wire I modified that is the problem. I have replaced the element several times. I replaced the control board in '06, and it was expensive.

That was good advice. I checked the voltage, and there is power to the new element. I think the problem might be with the most expensive part-the control panel. We are looking for a new oven.
