found an impact wrench

I had a few minutes so I stopped at the local pawn shop and find an Ingersoll 223 impact wrench for $30. The outside looks a little rough, but from hooking it up it seemed alright. Hope to bring it in to work tomorrow and test it out some.

I was planning to spend around $200 so for $30 I figure I can't go too wrong for the small investment.

Worth a try, if it does not work take it back and complain. Tey might not refund your money but it would be worth a try. It may work fine.

Was told I could bring it back and exchange it. They had 2 others there, one CH and I forgot what the other was. They were all priced at $40, so I went with what I know to be a better name and the outside appearance doesn't bother me as long as it works.

I just need it for occasional use changing tires and lawn mower blades. Got myself an air compressor for Christmas. Before that it was either bring it to the farm, or bring it to work. Kind of a PITA at times. A battery charger is one of the next goodies on the list. As well as some impact sockets and other things.

I"ve bought more tools from pawn shops than I have new, and have had really good luck doing so. The upside to name brand tools like your air wrench is that for the price you gave for it used -vs- the price of a new one, you can get a rebuild kit and make it, basically, a new wrench inside...regard less of what the outside looks like... and still have WAY LESS money invested than if you"d bought it new. Congrats on your new purchase and I hope you enjoy it, the 231 is a good tool.

"the 231 is a good tool."

Ya but the 223 is crap! LoL Couldn't resist. Most people regard IR the best impacts.

My 231 was an excellent buy. I don't know about the 223, but check the back for a spot to grease it. According to my tool man, those impact hammers need to be greased or they will destroy themselves.

I agree, I'm 30 to 100 miles away from any pawn shop, the
couple times I have been in one about had to pick me off the
floor and carry me over to a new tool store, the new stuff is
cheaper. Never saw anything for $30, a simple nail hammer
was priced over $30 at the pawn around me.

Can get new vanes and bearings for rebuild from IR. Easy to do. Run a little pb through it then air tool oil. If it has been oiled heavily the vanes could be stuck. Pb should loosen it up.

I bought two of the Ingersoll composite guns on e bay, half and three eights drive, both store display models, big one $51.. small one $82.00

I found a clamp meter once at a pawn shop that they were charging almost ten dollars more than I paid for mine brand new. They were both the same model Feild Piece. I confronted the guy selling it. He said they mark them all like that, but will come down. I frequently check pawn stores for tools, and I don't usually go haggle with them. If they are marked to high, I usually leave it.

I tested it out and it'll strip out a 3/8 nut easily enough. Seems to have a fair amount of snort.

I have some cheap imported lightweight 1/2" impact.

Not too long ago, I stripped a 5/8" NF nut 'cuz I absentmindedly let it rap a few seconds too long.

Stripping a 3/8" nut with a 1/2" impact doesn't prove much!
