Ol Smokey, the electric motor

Yesterday at work, I pressed the start switch on my CNC drill and heard the growl of an electric motor that is saying NO. The sound was coming from behind that machine, and coming from our drill sharpener. The switch is in the base and the motor is above it. From between the motor and the base I could see a very bright red glow. I went over to it quickly, and unplugged it. I had used it about 15 minutes earlier and I had turned it off. One post and wire had burned itself off of the switch.
Kind of spooky to think that on a day that no one should have been in the shop, that it could have burned the place down, all on its own.

Is that the green one called Drill Doctor or something close to that? Green on color? They had problems with them doing the same thing several years ago. People could call in and then send them in for a new one. I had bought one at Farmfest near Morgan, Minn a number of years ago and used it a few times then one day I was in the shop and noticed smoke at the other end of work bench. Went over there and found smoke rolling out of it. Like most people I left things plugged in not thinking of possible problems. But I called their phone number and they asked when I bought it etc then said send it in for a replacement. Less then a week later I got a new one. Truthfully I do unplug it after using it. I also unplug several tools when done using them. It is a good idea for preventing losses due to lightening too.

I have a main switch (3 phase fuse box) I pull when leaving the shop. This leaves on only an egress light, an outdoor light, and the basic heating system, all of which are fed from a separate panel.

Doesn't eliminate ALL sources of fire, 'cause some heat is left on, and 2 lights, but eliminates the great majority of electrical devices in the building.

My late Uncle wired it. He was an electrician, and did a lot of country grain elevator work, and that's how they were set up... a main disconnect that just left a few basic things on in the office, and shut the whole "plant" down.

No, it isn't a Drill Dr.. Is has been around so long that I haven't a clue what it is.

If there is a label maybe you can find a address or phone number.
Or you can get on EBay or Amazon then type in drill bit sharpener and look at the pictures of the ones for sale. Maybe get lucky and find the same one you have with brand name.
