Reusable Hydraulic hose connectors

I have some new 1/2" reusable hydraulic connectors, do the reusable connectors require different hydraulic hose? Any user reports? Thanks

It has been a long while since I used re usable ends to make up a hose but as I remember it the ferrule part of the hose end will be suitable for one of four things, the ferrule will be for use on one or two wire hose depending on pressure rating also it will be a skive (outer hose layer removed to expose the reinforcing wires) or a no skive ferrule (outer hose layer not removed).
In reference to your question you need to
Check if the hose needs to be one or two wire to suit your couplings.
Check the type of ferrule - skive or non skive
Be certain that the hose and couplings that you use
are suited to the pressures in the hydraulic system that you
are using the hose on.
If in doubt have the hose made at a hydraulic hose franchise and be safe. Hose ends that blow out can cause nasty injuries not to mention the oil making a mess.
Hope this helps
Ray.

Usually they do. Cat has reusable fittings but you have to use Cat hose. I've heard Cat is going away from the reusable though. There was a shop that had a Cat press and could use other hose but then Cat decided not to sell replacement dies to anyone else. They aren't any cheaper, usually more actually, because there's more steps to change them. I wanted to reuse them because the clamps on my backhoe clamp onto the Cat fittings but then it becomes a problem if you need to replace a hose. You have to go to Cat.

I love those reusable hose ends, saves a trip to town if a hose blows.
IMO They're just as good as the crimp on ends but a lot more expensive and they are harder to get.

I bought them after I fired up the backhoe on the 1st day I got it about 10 years ago and a hose blew, soaking me with fluid. Spent about $60 for a replacement hose as I recall so I bought about $100 worth of reusable fittings/adapters and hose to make up whatever I needed. That was about 10 yrs ago. Never had to use them since I got them. Most of my hoses have since failed due to age and would start to leak, not blow. Gives me time to get a replacement hose. I bought the fittings and my replacement hoses online at Discounthydraulichose.com. Great service. I ordered a hose on a Sunday nite, was in my hands on Tuesday.

I figure the reusable fittings are good insurance just to make up a temporary hose in an emergency until I can get a replacement made.

You need a hose that fits the fitting. I wouldn't call it special; just get the correct series hose. That's no different with crimp ends. You need to match the fitting to the hose and use the correct crimp spec... you just don't see that as the seller looks after the details.
I find that reusable ends work good on some things. I like them on woods gear where you can smash an end of a hose a mile out in the woods and have no way to get out without fixing the damn thing... but on most other things I usually prefer to just use crimp ends. For the hose that will blow once in 10 years, a crimp end is not a big deal... and reusable ends are about triple the money of a crimp fitting.

another thing about the reusable fittings is that they make the whole fitting assembly longer before you can bend the hose. As is the case on my backhoe, I can't use them in a couple of tight areas, where I have to use an adapter to mate to a different cylinder fitting.
