Massey Harris 44 King Pins

Hi all,

This is my first post on your forum but I have been following and appreciating everyones insight and information. I have a 51 Massey Harris 44 that I have as a toy to play with. I bought it last fall and have been getting it running like a top. Now I have started to look at the other parts so it is safe to drive and use. This morning I noticed I have about 1/4 inch of side to side movement at the bottom of the king pins and not much at the top. I did a search for king pins and bushings and found lots of sets for some of the other makes, but not for the Massey's. Does anyone have any insight and how I can fix or replace the king pins to get them back in shape?

Thanks for your time and help, its greatly appreciated.

I guess that would be a big help now wouldn't it! You can tell I am a little green at this. It has a Standard from end.

I have one with the row crop wide front, and have just got done rebuilding it. I would expect the bushings are the most worn.

Thanks for the reply David G, I am hoping the same, that its only the bushings. Did you get your new ones made custom or where you able to find some that would work? Also, were your king pins worn at all and did you have to do any work to them? When I worked on the big trucks it was easy to just replace the bushings and the king pins but I don't seem to find anything like that on my google search.

Those parts are hard to find.

I would pull the pins and inspect them, you can get them made or welded up if needed. You can go to the AGCO website and get the dimensions of the bushings. I had to get bushings that matched the dimensions.

Post back.

Thanks again David, I will go to the web site and check it out and get the specs. A gent a few roads over has restored his fathers 44 and he has sent me to a local welding shop. These guys are great as we have had them do some custom welding but I would never have thought of asking them to do this type of work. Regardless, it's all set up.

Thanks for your thoughts and help. The idea of these forums are great!
