Back around Thanksgiving I posted about these dirt mounds that appeared in the lawn. I was sticking with crayfish but not many agreed with me. I took a good look after the snow melted and I stand corrected.....moles.

I got them too - all over my hayfields. Plays hob with my sickle bar mower, as they push stones up as well as dirt in those mounds. Have a new DRUM mower, and hopefully, maintenance won"t be as serious. In my yard, I could treat for grubs, but a whole farm?

Ortho sells a product to kill grubs(what the moles are after)ticks and some other crawly things. I spread two bags every year. It will take awhile for them to leave, but they will not come back as long as you kill the grubs every year. I buy mine at Wally World.

I use milky spores on my lawn to kill the grubs. I need to do it again this spring because the moles were coming back a little last year after a five year hiatus. Applying grub killer is quick easy and long lasting. Many people prefer a hunt and kill one at a time mole defense strategy, but I believe those methods are too time consuming.

We used milky spore years ago but then it got hard to find. We never had moles in this part of the yard before and never that many mounds.
