Acet torch lights but flame is small and will not adjust

I went to use my Sears brand torch today and it would light (small flame) but there was no adjustment when I turn the acetylene adjuster knob on the handle like I have always had. What is wrong? Is the acetylene regulator toast?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I had a similar problem last summer. It turned out that some miniature spider had made a nest in the fuel gas supply hole of the cutting head. Unfortunately, I did not get it all out and need to disassemble the cutting torch again. And yes I tried different regulators, and bought new hoses and tried many things. These little spiders also mess up the propane orifices on RV water heaters.

Good Luck!

What does your secondary (line pressure) gauge say?

If it's in the normal range and responds to regulator adjustment, then the regulator is working.

Watch the gauge when you turn on the gas valve on the handle. If it drops to zero. the problem is in the inlet filter. It's up inside the brass pipe that attaches to the bottle.

Next unscrew the torch head, open the accetylene valve and listen/smell for gas to come out of the handle. If it does, the problem is in the head or the tip.

Reassemble the head to the handle, remove the tip and see if gas makes it that far. If so the problem is in the tip.

Just a process of elimination!
