Can't decide?

I can't decide which is asked the most, something is wrong with my chainsaw or I have an electrical electrical question.

PLEASE, this is not intended to make fun or insult anyone, just something that I seem to notice a lot of.

I look at the YT Ford sight. It seems there are a lot of posts like 6v-12v, how to wire tractor and something's wrong with my hydraulics. BTW, I have many posts there too, had hydraulic issues. I was ready to sell my Jubilee. They were very helpful too.

I can't decide which posts are more frequenty that are tool or tractor related.

What do you think?

George,

I would think electrical issues are probably #1. I enjoy your posts on batteries and other things, because I do not get the time to tinker enough.

Based on shirt cuff statistics, I'd say electrical.

And they are invariably hilarious. I particularly get a chuckle out of the inevitable harangue about groundED versus groundING.

About on a par with trusting the internet for medical or legal advice.

Yes, its actually interesting to see the trends of questions, relative to time of year, season, or commonly asked ones as well. Whats great about it is, theres always someone willing to help, participate, contribute, or just comment.

The value of a tractor is asked about quite a bit on TT, over on the crawler forum, you see often, someone new asking about a particular crawler, how to clear a piece of land or similar. With all of it, there's always someone willing to lend a hand, no matter how many times the similar question is posted. People acknowledge the archives by mentioning doing a search first, they really use this site in good faith to get help or provide it, its like the take a penny, give a penny tray on the counter of a small store. No advertisements, simple format, all makes it a good collaborative and neighborly place.

You're right, Billy Bob and Bubba have a hard time distinguishing between the Neutral which is a GrounDED Conductor used for carrying normal return current, versus the bare/green Equipment GroundING Conductor intended and dedicated ONLY for carrying fault current, even though BOTH are tied together at the Main Distribution Panel. BUT HEY I HAVE TRIED MY BEST LOL

And YES there's all sorts of legal advice asked about to which everyone and their brother in law crawls out of the woodwork and is an EXPERT lol

Still, there's no finer bunch of goodhearted folks here just trying to help and that's why I like it here.

Stephen Newell,
There is no need to say SORRY for anything. I've asked many question and learned by asking.

I am finding responses to this question are making me smile.

This is all for fun. Not to hurt feelings.

I could add another one: I want the BEST AND I'M ON A BUDGET? I don't think best and budget go together. It's alwasy fun to read a the best responses have nothing to do with budget.

This is what you get, Idoesn't want to go outside when it's 34, cloudy and very windy.

JohnT, don't rub it in, I'm sure it's nicer in SUNNY FLORIDA than in Indiana.

For those of use brought up on vehicle electrics or the old "make do" house wiring, the difference s between what we have and what's "code" can be pretty mind boggling. It's harder when you're trying to understand what's being discussed without pictures or examples to see whats being talked about. It's kind of like me discussing harnessing a horse to someone who's only seen a harness on a Budwiser horse in a commercial. It always ends up with "Huh?"

George Marsh,
I read a whole bunch of YT sites, really like KountryLife but they chase away new comers or ignore their comments.
If it wasn't for a few poster it would be dead. There is some on there if they don't like what you're saying and it gets reported and the whole thread is gone.

On the fixit sites regardless of the problem very few say thanks and I'm sure most either saved a bunch of time or $$$.
Now don't get me wrong here, a thank you when asking the questions is ok, but the real thank you is when you fix it, let everyone share in what worked and what didn't. You don't have to type a thank you. I have seen some queries may exceed 10 replies and then nothing.

I seem to notice alot of questions about chainsaws and with many references stating to buy a Stihl...and then I notice alot of questions about Stihl and it appears that people have alot of problems with Stihl saws................just an observation I have made..

LOL !!!!!

Yes, me too John ! Kind of a glass is half full type here, I like to see the good in people too !!!!

I think it should be said anonymously, some really do put in an effort to go above and beyond the call, when it comes to helping others here, maybe they've got the time, like to help or what have you, that don't meant the rest of us are any less, its just something that really makes this site an asset of friendly folks, most strangers to each other, but that are good neighbors, lets just say thanks to all who participate, no matter how much, it is something to truly appreciate, people being good to each other.

No question about it. There have been a few chainsaw/chain questions lately.

But electrical, 12VDC, and especially AC service, is always a "HOT" topic.

When and why did the Code start calling the Neutral the Grounded Condutor ? My bitty brain has a hard time remember which is the Grounded Conductor and which is the Grounding Conductor. I NEVER had any trouble remember which is Neutral and Ground. It's confusing to me now.

me electrical as in tested the capisator. got pop at exact moment of power applied. No power just seconds after . Got to wait till get to terre haute or Bloomington. Local hardware has some but all to big for case.

Are you going to Sullivan FFA sale next month? I plan on going but will have one of my motorized carts. Really having some problems last 4 years.

I don't know when it was, and similar I've seen wiring instructions that refer to what most know as the Hot or Line or Phase Conductor as the UNgrounDED Conductor. I reckon since the Neutral IS a Conductor and IS Grounded, they call it the Grounded Conductor while the other IS NOT Grounded so its the UNgrounded Conductor lol

You still in Zephyrhills??? Were starting North towards next weekend and will be going to Spring Hill or Hernando Beach and then the Sertoma Youth Ranch Bluegrass Festival March 26 at Brooksville before heading to Ocala???

Bill,
I forgot to look, will try to remember to see if I have a used start capacitor.

I know as a group, we are a whole lot crankier in the winter months.

That said, y'all have saved me a wheelbarrow of money with tips, advice, and knowledge. BTW, I need a good Stihl mechanic.

It wasn't the saws fault, it was mine...

(quoted from post at 15:00:37 03/16/14) I was kidding. I guess we need a smiley face to signify humor.

Go to Modern View and use that instead of Classic View. Gots smileys and it's lots easier to keep track of threads. :p   :( :) :D :? 8)  :p :x       :?: :!:

Anyone that that is on the old style view will find that by the time they get there problem fixed there post is 5-6 pages back, unless they start a new post it dont get seen on classic .

Just remember GroundinG with a G on the end is green [or bare CU] GroundeD with a D on the end is the neutral. One carries current one does not unless...
Or read any of John Ts posts where he has explained it clearly about a thousand times.

My electric chainsaw has a grounDING problem too, it's double insulated and it's not grounDED.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Ahh but it is grounded back thru the white wire at the main entry panel :)
Of course we pretend that it is not really grounded.

And then there's people that title a thread something like "Can't Decide". Which makes everyone have to "decide" whether or not to open the D-mned thing!
