Maytag washer update. Long Expaination

Hello,

Had a chance to look at the washer today.
It has no idler or tensioner system, single multi groove belt. Tub side of belt has no grooves. I tighten the belt a bit, and tried a small wash. It will empty about 1/2 of the water, and at the 12 minute time comes up with a error code. It is for an unbalanced load. The agitators are moving when it spins, that puts the load out of balance.
With no clothes in the washer, it will spin fast and remove all the water. It seams a bit out of balance, but it works, and NO CODE! What is wrong with this machine I think, is whatever makes the two agitators park, so they are balanced and don't move. All I saw was the pulley attached to the bottom of the drum,

Guido, try this. unplug your machine for 1/2 hour, plug it back in and try to use it . Some say the computer has to reset. Have seen it work a time or two.

I did try that hoping that was electrical. But his is mechanical. It will work fine without any clothes in the washer. With the clothes and water weight it goes out of balance and comes up with a DC code,

I wonder if the drum mounts are worn out .. There's elastic mounts that support the drum.. Maybe if they're worn out , the drum might rock around too much..

There are two drum shocks in front of the washer they are mounted to the bottom. The rear of the tub is suspended on each side with all thread on each corner. The agitators are moving on the spin cycle, and the clothes get all twisted up rather then sling out to the drum,

Can't say for sure but I would think that the agitators should be working to help distribute the load. I know that the big comercial-Industrial machines go into drain speed which is between agitate and extract before going into extract in order to evenly distribute the load so that it will balance. Small loads are hard on washers because it is difficult for the machine to balance a small load.

I can see the clothes getting corked screw while spinning and all in one lump.The two agitators should not turn, then the clothes would spread out evenly on the drum when on the spin cycle,

You might try replacing the "washer suspension pads. They are three small rubber/plastic pads that the tub fram rests on. My parents had a machine that would move all over the floor - we tried leveling it, etc. I did a Google search and found a sight that suggested replacing these. They are fairly inexpensive and pretty easy to replace. The old ones did not look damaged in any way, just slight wear marks. Well the new ones made the washer work like new. They are labeled as #18 in the attached photo...

My Maytag is a lot older but had similar symptoms 15 or 20 years ago. Burnt contacts in a relay prevented disengagement of the agitator while spinning. I just filed the contacts. A new relay wouldn't have been too expensive.

This one is a top loader, and the shocks and all the mounts all look good. I found the break down for the tub, and I'll look at it today again

Hello circus,

This one is about 10 years old and all electronic.
It will work through the cycle with no clothes. The agitators are driven either by the clutch through the transmission. if it is the clutch, its the easier of the two. I'll look at it today, and hopefully I can find the problem,

Hello circus,

This one has all the circuits, including the relays on the main board. I think now the transmission may be bad. If I hold the drum from turning it will empty all the water out. With the agitators and drum running, puts a code out to balance the load. Today I cleaned and lubed the clutch assy. but no luck! Found the rewind spring hole for the pin sloppy, and tighten that too!

In an older machine I would say that the "MOGater" is sticking and keeping the agitator going. It is a mechanical linkage that gets dirty and binding sometimes.

Thanks for the link! Tomorrow or next day I'll get another shot at the machine. Transmission is next. Wish me luck.............
