O. K. the wife's fan has a programmable garage door opener. How do you program them for your garage door opener? Thanks in advance. J.

fan? Do you mean van? If it is 'van', then you get the owner's manual and do what it says to program the buttons. If you don't have a copy of the owner's manual, use GOOGLE to see if you can find a copy online.

To program a rolling code compatible Homelink® system, please follow these steps.

1. Press and hold the two outside buttons on the Homelink® system until the LED starts to blink, release buttons

2. Press and hold the desired Homelink® button and the transmit button on your rolling code transmitter at the same time until the Homelink® LED changes from a slow blink to a rapid blink. (Your Homelink® system is now programmed)

3. Locate the learn code button on your garage door opener. (These are located under the light cover or on the rear panel depending on model)

4. Press the learn code button on the garage door opener, a red LED will start to blink. (You will have 30 seconds to complete programming)

5. While the LED on the garage door opener is blinking, return to the vehicle and press the pre-programmed Homelink® button 4 times. (Or until the garage door operates).

There is old school and new school operators. I have both. When I change the code, I have to get the manual out. Lost manual to new school operator, so while at Menards I had them print out instructions how to change it. Some are a PIA.

What VernMI said is correct. The first step will erase any codes so if you want to program the other buttons do not do the first step. Also you can use the same button for more than one opener as long as they are far enough separated so they don't operate at the same time. Just do step 3, 4 and 5. I have one button that does 3 of kids doors.

The instructions are usually on the back of the door opener,on mine you push the learn button and a small red light comes on and then within 30 seconds hold the remote button in till the light begins flashing on the door opener and it is programed.Easier with two people if it"s not a hand held remote like in your van, just did one in my son"s Durango yesterday.

I have set up five different cars to my opener over the years and all were the same. I take the hand held opener in the car in front of the garage. I hold down the hand held opener and then hold down the one in the car. The last one was the wife's SSR and it took three times open and closed before it took. They were all GM cars though. I would think they would all work the same. I think the three time thing is a safety deal so it could not be picked up with one shot from someone trying to steal it. Not sure on that just my thought,
