wireless routers

I have a Linksys, is there anything better to replace it with, current one is barely working. Two months ago it would work well in the guest house 200 feet away and now barely works 20 feet away.
thanks
Bill

Personally I wouldn't get anything other than a Linksys. Are you on a farm or in a neighborhood. If someone close to you added a router too and happens to be on the same channel that can kill the range. You might also try resetting the router.

Check the Hawking line of routers. They sell on Amazon for pretty decent prices. My router is built into my modem, but I am using a Hawking repeater to get service into my metal shop building and it has been great.

"smallnetbuilder.com" rates the NETGEAR R7000 as the best consumer router available right now.
Currently I'm running a Netgear (not the R7000 though), one son has a D-Link, the other son has a Genius.

Belkin now owns Linksys home networking, they bought it from Cisco about a year ago. Do a search for "Belkin Linksys merge".

Hi Bill,
Have you checked the set-up pages on the router lately.
If not, it might be worth a look.

Most times this works:
Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser's address window.
At log in, leave User Name blank & use admin for Password.

192.168.100.1 usually gets you into your modem stats.

the problem i had when mine went out was finding a linksys with removable antenna so i could put my out side antenna up went with net gear don't work as well had to get extenders which are a pain and no bill don't have any neighbors close enough to give him a problem

Did you move it. Changing the position of the router can affect the signal. It may also be defective. I am using a TP-Link TL-WR941ND that has 3 antennas and have a good signal.

A near-by lighting strike (no idea how close is 'near-by') can mess with the wireless circuitry (EMP pulse). A power surge can also mess them up.

D-Link, Linksys, Hawking, Netgear are all acceptable replacements.
