squeaky v-belt on an exhaust fan at work

This is an on going problem. Maintenance looks at it and it keeps squeaking. Why does it squeak? Is it that the belt is glazed? I bought belt dressing and spray it but it keeps squeaking. Is it a problem with the pulley being worn?
Thank you

Could be any number of things...

Belt too small
Belt old and glazed as you stated
Pulley wear as you stated
Improper tension

That's not much help, but without seeing or more info it will be hard to determine.

It could be that the pulleys are not in alignment and the squeak in the belt sliding down the side of the sheave.

Had a similar problem a few years ago. The belt supplier (I think Gates) makes a premium quality belt that is light green in color.

It is worth a try or a couple of bucks more.

Take a piece of chalk, (Yes the old black board type) and hold it against both sides of the belt. If the squeak stops, either tighten the belt or better yet, replace it.

If both belt and pulleys are in good condition, the pulleys are misalligned.

From your replies, I will guess that the belt needs to be tighter. It has some bounce to it, at the mid point between the pulleys. I believe it is as tight as they can get it. I don't know if they will let me try to fix it though. If only I could add a roller, to put tension onto the belt.
Thank you

If your out of adjustment, get a shorter belt.
