Stihl chainsaw wants to run vertically only

My 009 wants to only run if it is in normal, vertical position. Roll it over either left or right, and it spits and sputters. As if there is a spec of trash that doesn"t affect running if the saw is upright, but it moves into a jet when the saw is rolled left or right.

Can the carb be broken down, cleaned, and put back together and do any good ?

I would check the weight/filter on the end of the fuel line in the gas tank to be sure it is flopping around like it should as you move the saw around.

Not the answer but my experience

We had an 009 once. Hated me with a passion. Liked a son for a while and then didn't.

Husqvanas now rule.

Don'y bother with the carb. IH2444 prolly has it but may also be broken or missing vent hose or cracked gasoline hose.

I go along with 2X4 and IH2444. I would first check the fuel filter (easy fix) than check for a bad fuel line.

I bet the fuel line crack right above the fuel filter.....pull the line out of the tank by fishing a wire with a little hook on the end into tank catching filter and pull threw fill hole hold gas line snip off bad and put fuel filter back on and pop it back in tack for simple fix...to get you by but but new line....and replace it....hope this helps my 357xp pro model did the same thing few times....

How about this?? The addition of ethanol into our gasoline has a tendency to attack the fuel lines in most small 2-stroke engines. Replace the fuel lines as already suggested. Most likely they are cracked or otherwise damaged by the ethanol content in the gasoline.

These guys are probably right: check the fuel line and filter and vent first.

I did work on an 029 that did that and it turned out to be leaking seals due to worn crank bearings.

I had to change the lines on my very old right hand pull McCulloch. It was acting very similar to what you describe. Line was rotten and sucked air when you tilted the saw.
