What are you guys paying for propane gas in your area? Yesterday had tank topped off for winter and price was $4.27 a gallon and after discount it was $3.42 a gallon. I live about 14 miles south east of Lake Michigan in northweatern Indiana.

Here in Hairson county Indiana, day topped off my tank and it vas $187.00 gallon.
I use Ferrell gas and I thought it vas expensive, but compared to yours its cheep.
Try to stay warm:

$1.37 a gallon. Pre paid contracted a 1000 gallons in August. I own my own tank, so I can shop around for the best price.

Here in NC Iowa my last fill cost me $1.32 from local co-op. I heat moastly with wood, but contracted 1000 gallons at that price, Brian

Until this year prices haven't been bad. For me to shop around I would need to get my own tank. The company I started out with (44 years ago ) was bought out several times and ended up with Amerigas. This company charge for everything they don't do like the other companies they bought out.

You stated your problem when you said Amerigas. My propane co. sold out to those crooks years ago and I promptly told them to get their tank or I would vent it off get rid of it for them. I don't see how they stay in business. TDF

I took it as you meant $1.87 gallon. You would have answered in a differant tone if it was $187.00 a gallon. We have natural gas 1/2 mile on both sides of us with seven homes in this stretch of road and they won't come through.

I paid $ 475 for 250 gallons of Propane 2 months ago. i guess that works out to be about $1.90 per gallon.
Propane is still cheaper than fuel oil. Cant imagine having to pay $3.40 per gallon for it.

Try D&M Propane. I think you'd be on the western edge of their delivery area. Excellent people to deal with. I can't say what it is today, but the price during drying season was around $1.50 and I'm sure it didn't double since then.

I contracted 1500 gal with Farrelgas @$1.65 gallon. divide by 12 pay year around.Coulda got it some cheaper but they wanted $3000 up front.

The regional variation in the price of propane always amazes me. I just paid $2.80/gal which, near as I"ve found, is pretty decent for my area.

Apparently some places it"s half that, others even more.

I am in northcentral Indiana and paid $1.15/gallon to fill my 500 gallon tank. I use one tank per winter and always fill in the late summer. I own my own tank and can shop around however the place I have been buying from has treated me well and I have not been able to better their price. I was with Ferrell gas when I made the decision to buy a tank - it has been a good decision.

Not to be a distraction, but how far are you from Berrien Springs, Michigan? Our son and daughter attend Andrews University which is just outside Berrien.

I would assume you pay as you go? If yes, your paying market price. I got screwed a few years back on this....$2500 for 3 months of heat.

I now pre-buy in late summer. I only need for the house, got 400 gallons at 1.899 in McHenry County, Il.

Have fun,
....don t. ....

$1.69 here in the mitten. I have a auto fill contract. I never get the cheapest price, but I never seem to get hosed.

There is part of your issue - Amerigas. A few years back they bought the local company I was dealing with, and immediatly raised the price, and started adding other charges. I made the mistake of buying one tank full without knowing. "Fuel Recovery" fee was just one charge. When I asked what that was she said it was simply to recover their fuel to deliver it. I informed the lady this is likely their last sale, and I would have them pick up the tank after I burn off the remainder in the tank. She promptly informed me they charge not only for pumping out any leftover gas, but to pick up the tank as well (keep in mind this was in fact their tank). I wished her luck in getting that, and left. Since this was spring, I had some time to shop, and purchased my own tank, parked it along side theirs, had a independent gas company put in about 200 gallons, and after I had finished off the remainder I simply moved the line across, lifted their tank with my front loader and placed it along the side of the road, and called them to pick up their tank. I never received a bill, but it took them a while to pick it up. I noticed their facility was full of tanks and one local supplier said that Amerigas was the best thing to happen to them, as their business doubled. I advise price shopping and purchase a tank. Just do not do as I did and buy a tank missing the metal id tag. Took me a while to find someone who was willing to fill it (but I did).
