Turned my generator off and when I went to turn it back on, no start. It's a Chicago Electric Generator Model 66604 from Harbor Freight. They no longer carry it and have almost no parts available. Does anyone know where someone maybe able to get replacement parts for the engine.
Thanks,
Bill

It costs money to keep repair parts on hand.Harbor Fright sells new items that tell you in the instruction books that not all parts are available.Repair parts back up is some thing you give up when you buy cheap.A new spark plug may fix it.

They don't tell you this, but many small engine manufacturers consider their engines to be "throw-away" engines so they do not make and sell replacement parts. If you could get the parts, the prices would make you realize that you can buy a replacement engine for less money!

Just one of the trends in the industry.

Look up Jacks Small Engines on the internet. They have lots of parts. I ordered some mower deck spindles from them a few weeks ago.

I can"t help you with getting parts, but what have you determined to be the problem?

You might try searspartsdirect.com and look for your parts. I was able to get a new AVR for my Kingcraft 5000 watt generator thru them. Seems the majority of those Chinese generators (craftsman included) are built by the same company and Sears stocks most of the parts. Find the parts, make the call and wait a little bit. Delivery was about a week.

Sorry for your trouble (Whatever the exact problem was) and your story is one I've heard countless times. Sure, Harbor Freight stuff is cheap, I've owned some myself, HOWEVER its when it fails perhaps the price wasn't really all that cheap due to parts or service OR LACK THEREOF GRRRRRRRR......... A Honda or Yamaha costs wayyyyyyyyyy more but if they break (which they usually DO NOT) you can get them fixed.

Just saying, its a persons own hard earned money and they should buy what they can afford, I do that myself.

Many people buy from Harbor Freight for the following reasons:

I needed a MIG welder for a couple of small welding jobs. This is a tool that I use only a few times a year. As such, cannot justify (or afford) spending over $1000 on a Miller welder. The HF welder did the job admirably, and is now available for occasional usage.

On occasion, I have the need to go to a local u-pull-it junkyard to get a part or two. I am NOT taking my expen$ive Snap-on sets of sockets and wrenches! Once again, HF to the rescue. If I lose or break a socket, I can take comfort in knowing that I don't have a lot invested.

Harbor Freight brings otherwise unaffordable tools into the realm of the home user or occasional user. Tolls that would otherwise be simply too expensive for occasional use.

Need to do some more trouble shooting yet, however at this point I believe it has to do with fuel delivery. Compression seems a little low, wet test (may have not used enough oil in the cylinder) did not seem to improve compression. I do have spark. Would not even start with starting fluid. Pulled plug, plug is dry, no hint of fuel. Hopefully over the weekend or during the coming week I'll get some time to trouble soot it in more dpeth. Cold and doctor schedules are keeping me from it at the present time.

Many of the Chinese overhead valve motors are the same and parts interchange a lot. I have 2 of the Red Lion brand water pumps from tractor supply that I use to pump maple sap, they run a lot during the syrup season and have been great pumps for under 200 bucks. Eventualy one of them needed a ignition module, after lotsa round and round I found I could buy one for about 60 bucks with the shipping but may take a 3 to 6 weeks, not gona go that long on running just my spare pump so I went to harbor freight and bought a complete motor for 99 bucks on sale and took the parts I needed and have used many other parts off it over time. Chinese stuff like that is cheap and disposable sometimes that"s what you gota do to keep it going.

Thought occured to me you say your engine has low/no compression. Pull the head and check the valve seat inserts. One of them may have come out of the aluminum block. The exhaust seat in my 6 horse Briggs powerwasher did this last year. I tapped the seat back in place and staked it with a puncture wound punch, then put it back together old head gasket and all. It's run perfectly since then.
