OK, you canners. Anybody got a good on line place to buy the gaskets for a pressure canner. Don't remember brand right off. It has not been used for a few years and last it was used the gasket was too hard it did not seal. Stores bought gaskets at no longer around. And do not have to think about getting guage and valve tested because it is the type with a weight and as long as it is clean you can see through the hole the pressure excapes from under the weight that is if I remember correctly 10# of pressure.

Leroy - my wife has a Presto pressure cooker for canning. All replaceable parts for it are available in our local hardware store and the local farm stores. She also had a couple of pressure cookers that she inherited from her mother and grandmother that parts cannot be found for. Anywhere. We've given up on them.

Sometimes you can coax a ring to make it thru one last canning by coating it with cooking oil before closing the lid. Yours sounds like it's way past that though. Good luck.

Leroy,
Just another thought, the county extension agent in your county would be another resource for information such as this. They used to be very helpful. Of course things have changed and will depend on the county you are in. Good luck.

My wife has had good luck at True Value hardware stores. She recently found a new gasket for her 30+ year old canner. They did have to order it - the ones on the shelf were not her brand of canner.

Our Extension office tests gauges and the local old hardware has most parts. When we were in Kentucky a couple of months ago, I think Rural King had some stuff. Post the brands of your canners.
I have one Presto, 2 old Nationals, and a very large very old Dixie that uses no gasket and has the big brass wing nuts to hold the lid on.

Believe it or not, try Amazon! Ace Hardware and several websites also have parts, Just google pressure cooker or canner parts.

I always get mine at the hardware store. Mine isn't all that old, though. The date stamp on it is 1967. It's a shame that we think 46 years isnt that much.

To keep your seal in tip-top shape wipe some Armour All on it periodically. It helps preserve the rubber. It also aids in very easy pressure lid removal when the rubber is treated.

Just had the Wife get the canner info. It is a Mirro 12 qt. Model MO512 and gasket number is S-9882 and the weight is for either 5#, 10# or 15# pressure so with the weights no calibration needed. Book is dated Oct. 79 but we bought it 6-17-80 I know back several years ago finding parts for Mirro was hard, presto was about all that was avaible.

Are pressure canners still legal in the wake of the Boston marathon bombings? I sure hope that they fry that smug little @#$%! for domestic terrorism. And bury him right next to McVey.

I certainly hope so. If we're such a bunch of cowards and girly men that we outlaw pressure cookers and canners...well, we might as well hang up our spurs now and start wearing heels and fainting a lot.
