Who'd of thunk?

I did something last week to my little tow behind trailer. The tailite housings are all black molded plastic. I have been on a tinker kick and have made little impovements to equipment and tools ETc. Have you ever thought how to make your little tailites brighter? Remove the lense and put it aside. Remove the bulb. Washed out the housing with a paper towel and a little paint thinner. Masking tape over the socket and any side lense on the inside. Then use a rattle can of appliance white paint and gently paint the inside. Let dry and put it back together. WOW how nice it looks now! They look larger cause the light is spread out more and smoother. Almost looks naughty. Website program will not let you use a little better word. Give it a try! jeffcat

This is one of those ideas that is so simple it's silly. I did something like that, only I used foil, shiny side facing the bulb. Worked pretty good.

I've been captivated by the LED trailer light assemblies until I saw the price. Nice, bright, but costly. My camper trailer tail lights aren't bright by any means. Room in housing so I added a pair of clearance light bulbs in each. Didn't help much.

Great ideas, but

A lot of those problems are caused by inadequate wiring in the truck and trailer. Maybe the newer trucks with trailer towing packages are different but the on the older ones (70's-80's) the factory only put the very minimum size wire to carry the OEM truck light. Trailer mfgs are no better. Have a factory built 28 foot gooseneck wired with 16 ga wire.

Once had a 73 Chev dooley with a 12 foot trailer and could only get 8.5 volts at the back of trailer. with factory wiring.

I had a similar idea years ago . The only difference is that I painted the inside of my trailers light shells silver instead of white . I really didn't notice much difference . Those shells are rotted out now , but when I do replace them , I think I will try the white idea . God bless , Ken

I installed my first set of LED trailer lights. I can see that it won't be my last set. big improvement over conventional lights!

The dash lights in my old Ford pickup were so dim you almost needed a flashlight to see the gauges. I took it all apart and got some of that chrome looking paint to coat the inside back of the cluster. It helped a lot.

I have a 2011 Ford Escape that I thought had the towing package has the tires they put on the ones with the towing package and a adaptor plug at the back for a trailer plug harness went to test it to find out what wire did what no power looked in the fuse box had places for trailer fuses went to put fuses in no plugs just a dummy spot have to get a different harness (not happening) or get a relay box harness that's powered off the battery to compensate for small factory wire, just a point about the small wire they use now gonna build my own relay kit I've got a couple of relays laying around, will also paint the inside of the trailer lights white that makes a lot of sense can't believe I didn't think of that.
Thanks
