Cut off saw?

I need to replace my cut off saw. Right now I have an abrasive type, but for about the same money, I can get a carbide tipped one. I don't cut a whole bunch, maybe go through 10 abrasive wheels per year, but I do like the idea of a cold clean cut.
My local welding supply, has a carbide tip saw for around $350, local farm store has a Dewalt abrasive saw for about $200. What should we get?

I have 2 carbide cold saws, a hand held 8" Milwaukee and a 10" miter saw type unit and use both of them a lot. there is a learning curve to using them. Slow even feed no matter if cutting thin or thick sections is a must. Quick or slam feeding will result in quickly ruined blades. Even when correctly operated the cost per cut is higher than other methods but very quick and as you said clean and cold, major considerations when you want to go right on to the next step in the fabrication. Your cheapest cost per cut will come from the best blades you can buy. We are using a Japanese blade, name escapes me. The saws are their best for hot rolled bar, shapes and sheet. If only one cutting method is going to be employed in the shop they would not be my first choice. I also have a band saw and of course torches. I dont and wont own an abrasive saw. Been there, done that and sold that.

Like Butch said just make sure no unskilled operators slam the carbide blade down onto the work. The carbide blade deserves alot of respect. You can not touch an oil brush to it or it will rip your hand towards the blade.Oil first then turn it on. I cut steel fot 8 hrs a day almost continously for weldors and the blade would last two weeks . Once it starts to go it fails almost right away and won't make that last cut.You can make cuts pretty precise if you set it on the tape measure first then thats exactly where it will cut. A tolerance of less than 1/16". Your lungs will like it too.

I have one of the Northern Tool 14" cold cut saws. I have been very happy with it. It"s a beast at 61 lbs.

Check around your local welding store, we had a saw on sale that would cut everything, wood, metal, and miter cuts with a three year warranty. All for less than two hundred. Just look around some.
