So explain this to me...

I've always wondered why a drill index box opens left to right while everything else in life opens right to left... Any ideas gentlemen? My nephew asked me this question and I didn't have a good answer for him.

hinge is on the tall side of the box, drill bits get taller as the diameter increases. bits are indexed small to large. Bill

Its easy to explain, that is the side the hinges are on. If they were on tother side it wood open the oppisit direction.

Ummm yeah...I understand that. So why don"t you just index the drills in the opposite direction. That"s how the index runs for my end mill bits.

Hello BillyinStoughton,

The index sizes get bigger is from left to right. We write from left to right,

Guido.

Two reasons that come to mind.
As Bill stated below, bits get longer as size
increases, therefor the hinge is on the tall side.
Plus, largest percentage of people are right handed.
So by nature they will hold the box in left hand,
open it with the right thumb, & remove the bit with
right hand. Saves moving the box from one hand to
the other.

You are forgetting your primary duty as an uncle... comedy. You are required to make up an answer when you dont know the correct one. Extra points if you go on so long (without losing the questioners attention) that they forgot what they originally asked.

It is a very simple answer, you are opening it from the back side of the box, you need to open the thick lid not the skinny side. LMAO. Red Power is headed your way again!!
