What is this tool called and what is it used for? About 30 inches long, on the "head" it says "Fremont(?) Ohio Made in USA" on one side, words on the other side but I cannot make them out.

I have (had) two of those. I've never seen them used. I got them from the owner of an old full service gas station. He said that they were used as a leverage tool to lubricate leaf springs on old cars & light trucks. His dad opened the station in the early thirties, and the son retired and closed it down in the late eighties.

I believe you will find that such bars were made & used by steel manufacturers & warehouses/sales to aid in handling steel . I know I've witnessed the local steel warehose/sales employees using them when sorting or handling steeel inside their shop & on/off loading their trucks . It could also be used by steel buildings construction employees . I fabricated one exactly like it a few years ago (with a 2" gap) to aid in forcing some twisted 2x4 wood studdding into place so I can nail the studs to top/bottom wall plates . It worked sweet . I wish I would've thought of it years ago when I was doing construction for a living .Boy todays lumber is so bad even though a lot more expensive . I've even bought 4x8 sheets of plywood that had a tapered cut lenghth-wise . I do HTH ! God bless, Ken

It is called a "monkey" and is used to turn pipes and beams in doing iron work. I never saw a manufactured one because we always made our own.

I've heard that it is used to do tire work on split rims. Have one in the shop. it was here when I got here and I've never used it.

The pointed end is common in the steel erection trade for aligning bolt holes. I've never noticed what the other end looks like.
