Baldor grinder , stupid purchase ???

Went to a Voc Tech auction today, this Baldor 10 inch, 1.5 hp grinder was about to be sold for $40. so I started bidding on it. Went for $70. I knew it was 3 phase but I didn,t realize until tonight that is says 440 volt on the motor tag.. It is catalog # SP-103-MD, Spec. # G10-209-4.
Question is can it be run on 220 volt 3 phase or am I stuck.

does it have a metal platE
with two screws on it if it does.THEY will have numbers on them. look on the inside of the plate and it will show which one to connect together to change the voltage

JC , there is a plate , I just took it off. Inside the plate it says Low voltage hookup on one side and High voltage on the other side. There are 9 wires in the box,, I,m hoping this will change this to 220. As you can tell I,m not a electrical expert. Thanks

Take to a shop and pay them to wire it for 220 It's an expensive grinder and worth every penny of price plus repair.

You knew it was 3 ph so you have the 3 ph power so you can google a diagram to wire it for the lower voltage. May be on a plate on motor as well.

You can wire this to 220 but it will still be 3 phase and unless you have a rotary phase converter or have 3 phase supply, you won't be able to use it. Baldor makes great motors and grinders, by the way. IMHO

Thanks guys , I feel better now. I have 2 rota phase , and a static phase converters. and if I can run it on 220 volts , it will be fine . They had alot of 440 volt machines. Google Zed Barfield auctions to see what was sold.

Great price and great grinder (IF it works) it may well be configured as dual voltage 3 phase which should become more apparent under the wiring terminal cover. IF DUAL VOLTAGE CAPABLE, for High voltage (480) two windings will be connected in PARALELL while for Low Voltage (240) they will wire in SERIES.

NOT a stupid purchase

So exactly WHAT is on the tag... if only 440 Volts, it is apparently 440 Volt only motor.

Or does it say 440/220 Volts? (Or 480/240 Volts.)

Be aware that most 220 lines run at 240 now.My 110 line measures 122 volts.Have a motor shop check the wiring.
