Update on Log Splitter Spool Valve {Problem

The name on the spool valve is Energy. It seems to hang in the retract position and must be manually pulled forward to release. When I drained the hydraulic fluid from the cylinder, I'm changing out the fluid, it looked light brown. I have included [pictures of the valve. Any and all suggestions and help would be appreciated. If any one has a parts diagram of the valve it would really help. The cap on the back is held on with two screws and the lever and piston is held in by a couple of screws also. The only other possible opening that II can find is the nut under the return hose in the last photo.
Thanks,
Bill

Just go to: www.energymfg.com for Energy
Hydraulics, of Monticello, Iowa, Which is near
Dubuque. I"ve picked up items from the factory !
They have an "Online Store", and a place on the
home page of their website where you can ask
questions...perhaps even post this Y/T question
and the photo"s.. Energy is good quality AMERICAN
MADE, by AMERICANS, products !

Some log splitter valves were made with a detent so that when the valve was in the retract position so you don't need to hold it in position.

The detent is under the cover on the opposite end from the handle. Just take the two screws out and look at it. There are several types of detent setups. They all use springs and balls. They get sticky/rusty and need cleaned up usually. Sometimes a spring will break but not usually.

Here is a link to the current valve Energy Sells. It look a little different than your valve but not by much. There is a parts break down right on the page. There are also instructions on replacing the detent part of the valve.

Correct, but it's supposed to release when the ram is fully retracted and this one no longer is.
