5000 watt Generator and Lincoln welder

I need to do a welding job away from the shop and I have a 5000 watt generator with a 30 amp reset breaker and a Lincoln 225 AC welder. My question is will that 5000 watt gen pull my 225 AC welder with out damaging the generator? Thanks for information.

Larry,
I have a 5500 watt genny and a Lincoln 225 tombstone welder. I have used this combination to my satisfaction on small projects away from the shop. I take the time to turn off the welder between rods, and I don"t usually weld materials heavier than quarter inch thickness.

Larry,
I have a lincoln 225 buzz box. At 225 amps the input current is 50 amps. I have my welder wired to a 30 amp breaker and Never had a problem. I rarely go over 105 amps for my welds. At 105 the input amps should be less than half of 50 amps. So, yes it should work if you keep the amps around 75-90. Don't do continuse work. give genny and welder a break. Post back and let us know. Your question is asked many times, like grounding and neutral?
George.

Why would you turn the welder OFF? You should leave it ON so the fan cools the transformer coils between welds.

No need to turn the welder off between rods. The fan needs to run full time to cool the transformer. The idle current draw is low any way.Turning it off is wrong.
