Hi Tom,

Did you ever get more information about including clumps of hardened cement in the concrete mix? It's far from urgent, and you don't have to spend any time on it at all if it has turned into a nuisance, but if you find out anything I'm still interested.

Concrete is portland mixed with gravel.
If you don't want to deal with the lumps, you'll have to dig them out. If they can be crushed easily and still use the mix, you should be ok unless you're trying to lay brick or parge a wall with it.

lumps mean the cement has started it's chemical process called hydration--so it has lost some of it's bonding strength already. they can be pulverized and basically you are just adding a fine aggregate to the mix--it may add some strength to the mix as it was not fully hydrated.

There was a brisk debate about this topic when I first posted the question about it on August 30th. Tom B (Tomtirediron) thought he had some technical information about the subject at work, and said he would try to find it after the Labor Day weekend. I posted this to let him know that I'm still interested if he still feels like looking for the information.
