Paint Shaver tool

I have some 6" cedar lap siding that I would like to remove the paint. Found something called a "paint shaver" looks promising in the video.
Anyone have experience with this type of tool.
Does not have to be paint shaver brand but want it to do what it does.
thank you!

If you"re looking to remove paint from wood, you might consider soda blasting (if you have a sand blaster setup). I buy my soda from the feed store, though if I was going to do something as large as a house, I"d see about buying it in even larger bulk. But depending on how large your home is, it could be time consuming... but what wouldn"t be at that point?

I think it is actually easier to just reside the house. How is that tool going to strip between courses right up to the seam? Unless your repainting I don't think it will work to bring back a wood look.

I knew a fella in WI had the same problem you have. He took all the siding off the house, and put it back on with the painted side in. Looked pretty good when he got done.

A couple nice things about soda blasting, is it doesn't cut your wood (though if you have it cranked high enough it might). And if you lay plastic down first, it cleans up easy as what isn't caught by the plastic can be rinsed away with water. AND it will clean into the crevices.

I know, it's not the paint shaver, just offering a thought about cleaning cedar planks.

Whatever you choose to do, learn to do it well. Cedar siding will peel and flake again in a few years and you'll get to do it again. Just the nature of the stuff. I believe the guys who invented steel and vinyl siding once had homes with painted cedar siding. lol gobble

Never thought about soda. I have a pressure feed tank that holds d a bag of sand and 70 CU foot compressor. I hate sand blasting, hope soda is more fun.

I remember my Dad using something similar in the 1960's.
The modern paint shaver is much smaller and looks like it would be easier to use. Expect a rough surface when you're finished. Expect some circular gouges as well.
By all means use a vac with it.Make sure all nails are set below the surface so you don't hit them with the blades.

Is the house you want to take the paint off your house? Is it the house you live in? If the answer to either question is no, side over the existing siding with vinyl. The US EPA RRP regs will apply if it's a customer's house or if it's a rental you own, or even the house you live in if you or getting it ready to sell.

It is my house and I live in it for 40 years.
just looking for something faster, easier than what I have been doing all these years..
I don't much care for having to sand after using paint shave.
Thanks all for replies.
