Pressure washer woes

My pressure washer has been doing less and less. Grandson (age 18) used it last to do a bunch of rabbit litter pans for my wife. Never complained about lack of pressure. But then, what does he know? Tried to use it the other day, about useless. Thought I may be in for a new pump, as engine is still going strong...

Checked the filter on the incoming water line - full of slimy grass clippings and green leaves. Still trying to figure out where that came from. (Have two grandkids, age 3 and 4.) So that might explain that. Have just cleaned filter a second time, and more of same, so they probably stuffed the hose. What I can"t figure is why I"m still getting stuff out of hose, as it is used daily to water animals.

Anyway, still not up to snuff. Changed out nozzle to a new one, same size... WOW! All kinds of pressure... Apparently the water had actually worn old one to point where there was a severe pressure drop...

Glad you found the problem.I doubt I'd thought of that. That reminds me I know mine is worn and haven't gotten a new one yet. It still worked ok last time. I don't use it so much anymore either.

Perhaps the hose was left in the water tank that the animals used to drink. The hose then siphoned the grass and tank slime into the hose when the hydrant was turned off.

Might not have been the kids!

I have a set up so I can purge and flush water line of crap and air. Pump last much longer if you don't run dirt and air through it.

Leaf cutter bees will fill up any hose left open in the summer. Cost me quite a bit of time and money last year.

Easy way to clean out any pressure washer hose is to run the pressure washer with water no wand full blast for abou 1/2 hour top. If the Pump gets clogged run with no hose but with water.

That"s the same issue with sprayers used to spray herbicides. Used to be the nozzles were brass, held up pretty well. Then plastic nozzles became popular. Wear became an issue, so now, if you want longevity, accuracy, minimal long-term expense, you go with stainless nozzles. Your pressure washer uses much higher pressure than a 40 psi field sprayer. My steam cleaner runs well in excess of 1500 psi, and uses a stainless nozzle.
