Toyota Tundra recalled.

Our Tundra will be 11 years old in January; received a recall notice and made appointment with the dealer to fix it on Wednesday.

Apparently, the sensor system on the passenger side airbag may have been assembled incorrectly so the manufacturer is replacing the sensor at no charge.

Didn't expect a recall on a vehicle that old, but that's the way things are nowadays. Main reason to have it fixed is that failure to do so could effect the resale value of the vehicle. Rarely have a passenger in that vehicle anymore, but don't want anyone injured if it should deploy.

hmmm... I also have a 2002 Toyota Tundra... (purchased new)... I haven't received a recall notice for mine... Hmmmm...

The latest Toyota recall involves several different models of passenger cars, including the high end Lexus. Seems as though the rear frame rails are rusting away, which allows the rear suspension to become unattached.

They were warranty'ing the whole frame.

many bumped into a sale

but still many were taking the job and having their entire frame replaced

Business confuses me

They inspected my Tundra for frame rust; there wasn't any so they didn't do anything to it. It's never been driven in snow or ice so no chemicals to eat at the frame.

Toyotas are mostly made of USA sourced components. There is no love lost between the Japanese and China, they will avoid China parts if at all possible. If you want a China sourced vehicle, buy GM.

Yup, read up on "The Rape of Nanking" to see what Chino-Japanese relations are like. And don't forget the Chinese keep launching missles over Japans airspace. Not exactly pals those two!

NHTSA wanted Jeep to recall a bunch of Cherokee's older than that and update them to meet later safety standards. Had too many fires in rear-end collisions. They initially said no, we have fewer fires than similar vehicles, we far surpassed the requirements for the years they were built, and you cannot enforce safety regulations from one year on vehicle built in a prior year.

When the NHTSA threatened to get ugly about it, Chrysler said OK, how about if we inspect them, and any found deficient, we'll add a bracing structure to the back of the frame.

What are they really doing? Any Cherokee that doesn't have a receiver hitch, is getting one bolted up under it.

LOL, good cheap fix. That's our nanny govt for you. I'm surprised they don't hang out at classic car shows and give people tickets for having cars w/o airbags or seat belts.

Luckily, NHTSA is delaying the rear-camera implementation that was supposed to go in ALL 2014 vehicles at a cost of $2billion per year to new car buyers.

I've got 1 car with it and I hate it. I never use it. It causes more of a problem than it's supposed to solve. Best solution is to just plain old turn your head and LOOK! My feeling is: If someone wants it, let them buy it, but don't force me to buy something that doesn't solve the problem. Nowadays a car is totaled if you get hit hard enough to set off all the airbags. Could be fixable but your interior is ruined, without even considering the cost of the airbags. Sorry for the rant but I hate our nanny government.

Not nanny government. The government is being manipulated by crooked people for their own personal financial benefit.

What better way to set yourself up for life than to get your product mandated by Congress?

Some lobby that's heavily invested in rear view camera manufacturers is using their influence to cash in.

Same deal with the tire pressure monitors. Someone's manipulating the government to cash in. Probably the same lobby as the cameras.

Tire pressure monitors and rear view cameras are nifty gadgets for car dealers to upsell in a vehicle. They are NOT essential safety devices.

The reason tire pressure monitors would be "essential" is because people are too lazy or too stupid to look at their tires once in a while, actually check the air pressure once in a while, and pay attention while they're driving.

TPMS are required because Firestone sold Ford a bunch of tires, said don't run them under X PSI, then Ford stuck them on a vehicle and told people to run them below that, then people didn't pay attention when they got low and after a while running at something like 12% below minimum inflation (per Firestone) they would blow out. There was issues at two levels in that whole deal, and we get to pay for them both.

I hadn't heard about rear-view camera mandates. I guess after that there's no way to get a truck without a big fugly screen where a radio should be? And what about states where a video-playing screen within view of the driver is illegal?

Manipulated by outside interests or not, the government is becoming our nanny.

That's why I have no plans to ever buy another newer vehicle, even if it means having to go to Case for engine parts and swapping in a heavy-duty manual trans.

Yeh - and they all keep getting voted back in - nnalert, nnalert, Independents or whatever, they ALL need to get the boot!; then we can start on the bureaucracy like the EPA, NHTSB and a couple hundred others who need a real job
