Lincoln AC-225 Power Switch

Does anyone know of a safe chemical or lubricant to loosen up a power switch? I have the switch removed from the machine right now and it looks to be a little gunked up. The power switch stays in the on position unless I hold it in the off position and give the contacts (?) a little nudge. Would just some dielectric grease be enough?

Thanks

These switches are spring loaded for a fast make and break.I would replace it.That switch has to handle 50 amps at the welders full output. It will cost plenty. You need the code number to get the right switch.

WD 40 will leave more gunk behind when it evaporates.A fellow posted about a revolver that was jammed up.It had been oiled with WD40.A good cleaning fixed it.

Electrical contact cleaner. You can try the spray can type but better would be the liquid quart bottle from Affiliated Electronics in Tulsa (see website) on Admiral. Good stuff. Tell them what you want to do as they have two or three different types.

But...since you're working on an electrical component switching ~50-amps (never switch under load, but that big transformer pulls some just idling), I'd want it to work correctly instead of making a big flash with my hand on it.

Any Lincoln dealer (I trade at AirGas SouthWest) can get the part or try the Lincoln corporate sales office in Tulsa.

You can look up WD40s content.A German saftey sheet says its mostly naptha.US sheet says Stoddard solvent and mineral oil.Propellant has been changed to CO2 instead of petroleum gas.Its a high priced common chemical.Bad news on carry guns because it can get into ammo and tie up revolvers.
