Delay on make timer?

Most air conditioners have a built in delay on timer. This timer is to delay the 24 vac control voltage sent to the compressor's contactor/relay. (I think hvac people call it a contactor, some may call it a relay, don't really care what you want to call it, sure everyone knows what I'm talking about.)

Some window A/c have the delay built in to them. Purpose is to delay the on time, 2-3 minutes, so if someone is turning them on, off and them back on, there is a delay in applying power to the compressor. Also, if lightning causes a power blip, there is a delay for the freon pressures to neutralize.

What I want to know, is there a gismo that I can plug in to an outlet and then plug in a refirgerator that has a built in delay on? My power company, out of the blue, has a power blips even if there isn't a storm. It may be nice if there is a surge supressor built in.

I'm sure I could build one out of a supco TD60 timer and a relay, but why build one if I can buy one?

You are spot on about the TD60. I've been asked for the same thing quite a few times and never came up with one. I built one for my IH refrigerator I keep in the garage for the exact same reason. The TD60 is as good a headstart as I've been able to find. Good luck.

Used to use pneumatic timers in control panels before PLC's took over. They could be set to delay closing the contacts on the application of power. Delay opening the contacts in the application of power. Delay closing the contacts on the removal of power. Or delay opening the contacts on the removal of power.
Probably some in a relay control catalog somewhere?
Just spin the little thumb wheel to vary the timing.

The TD60 timer is a cheap adjustable timer, 0.8 - 8 minutes and the voltage range is like 18 vac - 220 vac, however this is just a timer to be used to control a relay. Commonly this timer is on A/C.

I'm looking for a simple all in one, timer and relay, to handle a refrigerator.

So, is there criter like that?

Here"s a Titan controls #702690 timer that may work for you. Has 1-15 minute delay.

DH,
Thanks, that's what I'm looking for. OUCH cheapest one so far is on amazon for $56. It will still be worth it. A refrigerator needs something like this, especially in the summer.

I'll look for the best price and then order about a dozen.

Agree with saving a ref. I have 12 ref too. Just replaced one for a tenant. After it sat for 2 days, I put it in my shop, plugged it in and can't figure out why it failed. It appears to be working fine. My final test will be the defrost circuit. Will do that tomorrow when it gets cold enough to move the timer to defrost. Currently, the timer is moving.

Been thinking, is possible that a power blip may have caused it to fail, compressor overheated trying to start and never got the job done, shut off on overload?

I'll put this unit in my garage to keep drinks cold and test it out.

George:

Potter-Brumfield Time Delay Relay. Depending on which model you purchase the delay can be set for Seconds, Minutes, or Hours. These are on OCTAL plugs so you will need an Octal socket to mount them on.
