blew tire on bandsaw?

Any idea what caused my tire to come apart? It looks like it seperated at where it may have been fused together. Bandsaw is a 14 inch dela. Not that old and not that many miles on it. The brake was not a cut from the band either. Is it possible I had the tension too tight and when the blade got pinched, the belt snapped? Those puppies aren't cheap. Delta doesn't even stock them.

Been well over a decade since I worked on one of them things. Back when I worked at Tracker Marine I fixed that sort of problem many many times. Most of the time I found the problem was the glue that glues the tire to the wheel loosens up then the tire slips in one area and that cause it to bunch up and then break

Old, There was no sign of glue on wheel. Guy I ordered tire from said no glue. I can't believe it cost me $59 for two tires. Later I found them on ebay for half that price.

Ya some band saws use glue and others the tire is just so tight no glue needed. Was it the drive wheel or the idler that the tire gave out on you??

Ok good chance you got the blade in a bind so it torqued the tire which will cause it to bundle up and rip

Many companies custom make them now out of some TOUGH poly material. You have to boil it to stretch them on the wheels. I put a set on my Inca 13 years ago and they are still like new.

Well Delta doesn't sell parts for anything anymore. They have had their parts warehouse closed for more than a year. The good news is a 14" tire is a 14" tire and you can get one anywhere. It doesn't have to be Delta. Properly installed a rubber tire will work better. They are glued on and then trued and crowned so they will tract better. The urethane tires are normally just stuck on like a rubberband. Eventually they will stretch and become loose and walk off the machine. http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/Tire%20Crowning.ashx

I have a Rockwell Delta from the early 70s and it still has the original tires. Those tires have gone many miles and had many hard cuts with a one inch blade resawing plus a few binds. I bought a set of Urethane bandsaw tires from Rockler but so far they are still in the drawer.

As for Delta they were bought by a Taiwanese company so it is no surprise they dumped parts. I have a bunch of Delta stuff, the bandsaw, Unisaw, Contractors saw, a couple of planers, jointer, scroll saw, lathe, plus a couple of Rockwell Delta routers. All older and all mostly good quality.

One of the planers needs new feed rollers but they are expensive so I picked up another planer for less money. The scroll saw was missing a blade clamp and it took a long time to find a replacement until one showed up on eBay.

I used an old belt from a belt sander, removed planner blades and used the sand paper to scuff rollers as they were turning. It worked fine after that. Removed blades so I still have all fingers.

Go with these. They worked great on mine. Follow instructions on applying.

Yeah, that's the way to go. They have a buit in crown.

Yeh - My Dad had an old Craftsman that needed tires and we ended up getting a set of poly tires that were the right diameter but about a 1/4" too wide - we put them on and Dad turned the wheel slowly by hand while I held a box-knife to the belt to remove the excess - still working good at this point in time :)
