Tri Plex Revisited

The thread below got me interested and I certainly agreed with the one comment there werent many solid responses when electrical questions were posed (Although Ive tried 15 years to correct that lol) and I recalled Joe McPartland and Mike Holt were among the finest experts back when I attended NEC Seminars, so I took a look and found a thread on Mikes Forum addressing use of triplex inside conduit, and low n behold I found something on topic. Although I never specified any for indoor use (just for service from utility to customer) my house has the Triplex inside conduit where it rises up out of the ground into the meter base and that passed inspection in "my jurisdiction" at least "at that particular time", but sure cant tell if things have since changed and, of course, that was outside NOT in the building.

Interesting reading for us sparkies at least, but I'm sure BORINGGGGGGG for any others so please kindly disregard

An always interested and willing to help and stil learn myself John T
Use of Tri Plex

Hey John,

Thanks for the link.

As for triplex not being UL listed, I think the man just might be right based on my limited experience. Back in the day, I needed some for an overhead run to a barn. Checked with a friend who worked at local power co. service center. Told me the power co. could not sell it to me because they did not get the UL listing. However HE could buy it and he did and sold it to me. What's the difference???????????????

Some years later needed some more and bought it from my regular electrical wholesaler no questions asked. Don't know don't care if it was UL approved or not. GO FIGURE.

That may be true, but Id venture a guess theres probably more solid answers on Mike Holts site then the hum dingers, zingers n Billy Bob replies Ive seen here over the years lol

But hey, we sparkies here do our best

Why is it that when someone poses an electrical question, that EVERYONE has an opinion and they're not afraid to share it???

Tractor questions, nobody wants to answer. Nobody knows nothin' about suck-squeeze-bang-blow, but when it's something that can burn your house down or kill you and your family, they have no problems shooting off their mouth even though they know in their heart of hearts they have no idea what they're talking about!!!

Its just the nature of the beast lol. I have observed (15 years here) what you say indeed. When a legal or electrical question is asked, everyone and their brother in law (especially Billy Bobs and Bubbas) crawls out of the woodwork with their opinions and are "experts", be they completely untrained and ignorant or well trained professional electricians (several of those fine gents here). However, for the most part, they are fine gents just trying to help and God Bless them for that and you will hear no complaints (aside from well intentioned warnings to the questioner hoping to save a life or prevent a fire based on BAD advice) from me. All are entitled to their opinions and ya cant fault a gentleman for trying to help I figure... I do my best to help anytime I can and so do most others.....STILL YOUR OBSERVATION SEEMS CORRECT IN MY EXPERIENCE that electrical questions sure bring them out, so more power to them I guess (BUT I will still speak out in good faith and polite with respect if I see advice that may get someone killed)

It sorta goes with the territory here

God Bless yall
