need info from someone about rooting suckers from tomato plants. i've never had much luck trying to do so. i welcome all respondents, have a good daay

My dad would do that years ago. He used some sort of rooting powder he got form one of the seed companies to do it

I've had good luck just dropping them in light soil and keeping VERY moist and wet for a few days, to give a nice drink - then let them go as normal. Usually the leaves wilt slightly at first, but as long as stem is intact; they grow their own roots. Cut as low in the crotch as possible, bury as much of stem as possible.

thanks.. one of the problems i have by leaving them on plant is it gets really hot and dry around here this time of yr.i was wanting to move and root them in some partial shade and have some fall tomatos. but maybe my wants wont hurt me. hope all is well with you.

Been hot and dry here plus be busy with fixing stuff for people. My garden is not doing well this year due to the odd weather we have been having. Oh well such is life

You are wise in starting new plants. I use potting soil and keep it wet by sitting pots in a pan with 2" water. You can also bury a branch and keep it wet for a week before severing from mother plant. Plant the rooted section and clip off most of the branch.

I plant in a solo cup with good potting soil (punch a few small holes in the bottom) water daily...The first 2 are 3 days they will welt bad but perk up and take off... keep them in the shade a few weeks and then set...

I pick a spot were they will get 9/10 hours of sunlight a day NO MORE.... Better Boys work the best for me...

I try and pick a day to plant were its going to be cloudy are rain if not I will partly shade the plant... Good luck mine are doing great,,, I try and get them set by the end of the first week of July if I am later I will not harvest any ripe fruit... Mine have buds on them right now so I think by mid sept. I will have fruit... The only reason I plant them is to have a good matter to enter into the county fair I have won first place quite a few times... I have had the best looking ripe mater tho samll and lost to a great big green mater  I have also lost to a big ripe mater that was rotten on the back side  I go for size now  The city slickers that judge have no I.D. what a good mater is spose to look like

My late father-in-law was always starting them. I never fool with them. I have a garden full of plants and my wife has them in her Earth boxes. I have about 5 different variety's some come early and some late. I raise my own plants from seed starting about the first week of March.

Here are pictures of the garden and Earth Boxes.
