Prepaid wireless?

Was at wally world and noticed they have a verizon monthly pre-paid plan, more minutes and less money than my verizon contract plan.

Went to the verizon store, they too sell the same plan, however they want $50 for the same phone that wally sells for $10. Asked at the verizon store what happens if my phone goes bad, $200 for another phone.

What's the deal? This sounds crazy. Where I live most of the time, there is only one tower, verizon. Does anyone have the verizon prepaid plan? Where I live verizon is the better choice, better than 2 cans and a string.

I use it and am completely happy with it. I got mine from Wally world. As you said cheaper. If the phone goes bad, buy another for $10.

I have had the verizon pre paid plan for a few years now. Happy with it--I buy $100 worth of time yearly so the unused minutes roll over.

I used to have the cheapest Verizon contract and it was costing me over $400 a year. When that ran out I went to their prepaid thing at $100 a year. I mostly talk to my wife and if I call her on her business (verizon) phone it doesn"t cost but even when I go over (I average having to add another $100 during the year) it still is less than half of the contract per year. Been doing it for about 4 years now and I like it. I guess it depends how often you make calls.

I have a similar AT&T pre-paid Go Phone plan for my dad. $100 per year, unused minutes roll-over at the end of each year.

Had it for a few years now and it serves the purpose.

I have only ever used the Trac phone. Probly a hundred bucks a year if that. Never been anywhere it didn't work. It has more features than I'll ever want or use. Checks internet, takes pictures, and even lets me talk and listen on a speaker so I don't have to find the correct spot to hold over my ear.

I have had an AT&T Go Phone for a few years at $100 a year. It has worked in any state I have been in except Nebraska. Tried it when in Hastings and Nebraska City. Just don't recognize AT&T their I guess.

Jim,
You are lucky, keep your phone. The minutes on the new verivon plans don't roll over. Need to buy minutes every month. However it is still cheaper, go figure.

I have Page Plus cellular which uses verizon towers and so far I am pleased. $40 mo + tax and crystal clear service. Its prepaid.

The wife just bought one at WW on US Cellular(best coverage around here) for $40.00 per month, she was paying $70.00 per on a US Cellular contract.

I have a $9.00 Tracfone and have double minutes for life. I might spend $60.00 a year on minutes. My wife buys a yearly plan for $100.00. You can get Tracfones that work on ATT or Verizon.

Tracfone is not for you if you're one of those people who can't breath without a phone to your ear or that text every 10 seconds.

Consumer Cellular. Free phone, free activation and no contract. Ten bucks a month and 25 cents a minute, period. Got it through AAA. It's just a basic phone but that's all I want. Had mine about 5 years and don't have 5 hours on it yet.

Ten dollar tracfone. I buy 60 min every 90 days for 20 bucks and I have over 600 minutes built up on it now. Handy when I need it but I don't like talking on telephones period.

Consumer cellular phone is not free

I've been using Straight Talk (wally-world+tracphone) for 2 years now. Their $30 plan will carry me most months but I use the $45 unlimited so I don't have to worry about it in months I use the phone more. They latch onto the Verizon towers in this area. Go to wally's-mart's website and punch in "straight talk", pick a phone, enter your zip, and it will tell you if it will work there.
I won't go back to a contract service.

Deal is done. Was able to get 382 contacts from contract verizon put in to my pre-paid verizon phone and keep my old #. Saving $10/mo and just in time. Yesterday before I got #'s switched, my 4 year contract phone died. Had phone # backed up at verizon. Services for phone will be soon. Please send money instead of flowers:)

(quoted from post at 10:23:47 07/24/13) Here in Colorado, two cans and a string are much better than Verizon, the CAN YOU HERE ME NOW! phone company.

I reckon it depends on which PART of Colo. you are in: I had AT&T and it broke up a lot in places that Verizon was/is 'wall-to-wall & treetop tall' - it is what it is, I guess

I can tell you as soon as my contract renewal date is due I will go with a prepaid phone no contract... As for keeping my number Verizon can stick it were the sun don't shine

You can take your number with you, just a minute or two when you set up the prepaid and there it is. I believe you can even import your land line number if you like.

i have been using wally striaght talk prepaid program for over 4 years now. the phones have held up to the abuse of a construction site. $45 a month buys unlimited talk, text and internet...cant be beat around here, and the service is great
