This is probably NOT the place to mention that LOL, I think are dangerous, but not enough for a small stump, or rock. I have seen what was referred to as a full stick, really a large fire cracker, and have heard those may be of some use, by a person who tried it in a mountainous area, with lots of boulders and stumps, I would have liked to see the results.
A long time ago, one of the troopers at the barracks that was next to us got a hold some dynamite, not sure what type, whether it was confiscated or what the deal was in those days and he used it on his new home site, not good broke neighbors windows, sort of a funny story, no one got hurt, but many people in the town remembered the incident for years. What a character he was, good guy, his son followed his footsteps and made some impressive advancements in his career doing the same thing.
I think one of those old powder splitters or a properly drilled hole and packed with appropriate powder, safe fuse etc. would be more effective than a 1/4 or 1/2 stick which is really kind of non consumer grade firework. I always wondered why they used the same nomenclature as the real explosives seem to be a lot more powerful and even more dangerous. I set off one of those toilet paper roll size ones in a small diameter tree crotch, it kind of split it a little. Nonetheless, any of these can certainly cause some serious injury, I do know of one person missing a hand, use care !
