I'm in the market for a Snap On 5/8" drive ratchet and breaker bar. I have a complete set of sockets but can't seem to locate those. If anyone has any, give me a shout, my email's open. Keith

i think the 5/8 drive was an old military issue. i have a few old snap on sockets that fall between 1/4 and 3/8 drive, and was told by the snap on guy they were probably military. it was done so the tools would not walk off and head home. apparently a lot of them did.

I have 2 sockets that are 5/8 drive ,,yard sale find ,,,heard yrs ago that military had them ,, , but never seen a set

Google Garage Journal and Garage Gazette, They both have tool trading forums, Lots of knowledge on the boards too.

Yes, there was also a small 5/16 ratchet. IIRC, the one I have is a Plomb. My Dad had it in some of his Air Force stuff... I think all the odd sizes are GI issue.

I do think there was also a 5/8 inch Swench impact tool..

I have a 7/16 drive Blackhawk ratchet speeder handle and extensions years ago a ranch I worked at had a 5/8 drive set I think it was OTC

HA!! Now that I see that pic I remember I got a 5/8 one in a box of stuff at an auction once. I thought it was a special tool for mechanics or something so I gave it to a mechanic friend. Guess you learn something every day.

Used to have a set of 5/8 snap-on sockets with a breaker bar. My uncle broke the breaker bar years ago and had a new drive machined for it. It walked off sometime just before our sale.
