Need Welder's Advice?

I'm in the process of converting a bush hog from category II to category I. I was going to weld in cat II to cat I bushings in the top link hole of the A-frame. To me, the conversion bushings I bought at Tractor Supply look to be maybe bronze since they have that golden appearance clear through the wall when I cut one in half. It doesn't appear to be a chromate or similar surface finish. Does anyone know the composition of these bushings? Can I weld them with 6011 or would they have to be brazed? Thanks for your help.

Where's your magnet? If they are magnetic. They are steel, probably 1018 Cold Rolled with a anodized or cadimium finish to prevent rusting. 6011 is Ok but not my choice, too brittle, will probably crack out. 7018 is a better choice.

Burn the plating off them without breathing the fumes, sandblast or wirebrush 'em to clean 'em up and weld 'em in place!

I have a top link with cat 1 eye on one end, cat II on the other. Now my tractor is cat II, but you could reverse the proceedure and use a cat II pin, without all the hassle of welding in shims.

Thanks guys. Had to run to the hardware to get a magnet. They are definitely ferrous based. Just wasn't sure based on appearances at first. Got them welded in with 7018 and all appears well.
