cleaning inside of spyglass

i found a WW2 vintage spyglass in my dad's possesions that has crud inside the telescoping tube......what is the best way to clean this without further contaminating it?

What SS55 said, take it to a pro. Telescopes, good ones, aren't something you take apart and clean without the right solvents and glues to put it all back together.

Hey Carl.

I have a sight level that rode around in the back of my bucket truck.

I took it out to use it and found one of the crosshairs was 'bent' out of place slightly. Being me I took it apart to nudge the crosshair back in place.

I ended up with no crosshairs and a $260 bill for repair from the manufacturer including shipping thank you very much.

Just my two cents.

Brad

I googled "telescope repair and got several good hits, adding "vintage" to the query might be even better.

Yepper as the others say, take it to the pros or just keep it as is as a relic?
If you are interested in the cash value sometimes restoring something drops the value.
