truck insurance

A lot of you guys have f350 trucks with a flat bed or a bed similar. Can you recommend an insurance company that is reasonable. The company I have my car insurance with does not insure a truck with a flat bed or hoist.

I don't have a dump turck, however I do have a business. My problem is all insurance companies I talk to want everything, house, car, truck, business. Finding an insurance company that will insure commercial property is a real hassel, some won't even talk to me.

If you are local use an have some type of farm then lool at Farm bureau, Countryway, and other farm specialtie insurance. Full commercial If you go out of state, have a company etc is very high.

I've got my Topkick insured with Motorists Mutual. Not really cheap, but about the best deal I've found. I've got everything else with allstate, but they don't do trucks over 10, 000 gvw.

JOB, State Farm Has been more than fair with me Good price. at present 4 rigs,,2 F-series P-ups, 1 Expedition, 1 Car, Full Coverage! OBTW....1 Teen in the mix too!

We have all of our insurance including 3 flatbed 1 tons insured with Auto Owners. You will find cheaper, but not better insurance. They have treated us well for many years.

Exactly! Loyalty will provide benefits in the long run that far exceed a few pennies saved by price shopping everything to the inth degree.

Check your local Farm Bureau, they have all my vehicles (4 trucks & 5 trailers). I have my home and farm insured elsewhere.

In resality loyality with/to an insurance company is a one sided affair. Over the years I've seen both friends and family run into that very thing when they actually had a cause to file a claim after years and years with the same company. In the end the 'pennies' saved by shopping around for better rates over the years would have, in some case, paid for the repairs needed and not caused them to have a 'small' claim that gave the insurance folks a reason to raise their rates through the roof. Even worse are the larger claims that give them a good excuse to cancel them all together becauser they actually had to pay out money to cover what they were insuring. In all cases only loyality was customer to insurance because on the other side they did only what they had to do by the policy and even then whatever they could do not to have to do that....

I've got my service truck insured through a local agent with Erie. Too, last year I transferred everything else, home (our house and our rental house), personal auto, and business liability to them also. In every case they provided better coverage and in the end saved me nearly $700 per year between them all.

You are correct, I should have said loyalty to the right company. I was loyal to State Farm and got the shaft big time from them. Opposite to that and your experience is Auto Owners. We write a big check every 6 months to Auto Owners and believe me loyalty carries weight there.

George, try Sentry Select Ins. Co. I had my tucking company insured with them for 25 years and actually saw rate reductions several times at renewal. Even one year when 1 driver had several wrecks that were his fault. Were originally John Deere Ins. Co.

I don't use an insurance company, I use an insurance broker. He finds me the best deal. He uses different companies that I've never even heard of, however will pay a claim with no hassel.

Before that I went to an insurance company, like state far, which won't touch commerical. Was with Farm bureau, but they won't give me replacement insurance, learned the hard way, ouch. Again my broker, wanted all my business or nothing.

I too have Auto Owners. Been on with them ever since I could drive and Mom & Dad had them too before that. I can't say either way if loyalty does me any good ?
I have checked around every few years and still could not find a better price. I have had a few Auto claims and they have been fine to deal with.
Some will match it, but so far none enough cheaper to bother switching.

My grandparents and dad had Nationwide since the local agent opened their doors. I did too, but never will again, after the way they treated me when I wrecked my pickup. Wouldn't give me over the very bottom end of wholesale on it, docked me $1000 because it had an extra 1100 miles over average. Trying to push me into buying their "gap" (difference between what you owe and the lowest possible value they could put on it) insurance. Tried telling me it was illegal to put any higher value on it. Then they kept calling my dad asking if I was going to accept their offer, when he wasn't named on the policy.

Told them it wasn't going to work.

Had Agent's Insurance out of Maryland for 6 months. Stay away from them. When the agent goofs up your billing, they'll start sending you late notices, dated 2 days before the postmark, with a due date the day before the postmark, and try charging you $950/month for straight liability on a $1500 truck.

Knew several truck drivers who had State Farm cancel their policies after they got a couple overweight tickets, but that was at least 15 years ago.

Michigan Farm Bureau burned us big time on a claim on my deceased in-law's place as we were transiting it to salable property. Said they weren't responsibile since no one was living there. They knew the statuw of the property, were glad to take our money....

Thanks guys for the suggestions of who not to go with and the suggestions for who you have had luck with. This truck is not on the road on a regular basis.

Nationwide really screwed me over years ago too. The only time they really do any good is when they are the agent that is paying for damage caused by their 'at fault' client in an accident. Basically they do the same as they do any other time and try their best not to pay.

In my case I had a 55 Chevy that was wrecked in a towing accident caused by debris in the road. They decided after the wreck that the insurance I had on the car wasn't the 'right' kind so they were only willing to pay something like $2000 for a car with well over $13,000 invested in it. I fought and finally got paid, not as much as I wanted, but I did keep the 'salvage' for the running grear. On the other side of things, I had a guy cross the center line and hit me, totaling my '88 Ford F150 about 13 years ago. The truck was high mileage and had a salvage title from a previous accident (body damage was a dent in the hood, a bent front bumper and the transmission had to be rebuilt) but repairs had been done right and you'd never know it had ever been wrecked. Still they wanted to give me less than $1000 to replace it. I told them to shove their offer unless they could find me anothet truck in the same shape as a replacement, for the price thye were offering. Needless to say they couldn't. I let things drag out for over a year until they finally came to me pretty much begging to settle. I don't know wether they had a deadline or what but they all but kissed my a$$ to gget me to agree on a settlement amount. In the end I got something like $3500, which was plenty to replace it with another.

In the end having control of the wrecked truck so I wasn't having to pay storage on it, having other transportation so I wasn't relying on them to get something else, etc all played in my favor and gave me the ability to 'play their game' and turn down any offer made that wasn't what I wanted......Especially since the accident was far from being my fault and it wasn't really an accident as much as it was negligence and pure stupidity on the part of their client...

When they contacted me they wanted the bank info so they could get the pay-off to put a value on it. Being somewhat distraught not knowing if my kneecap was going to heal, being stuck inside for the next 3 months, and on pain meds, I screwed up and gave it to them. Then after two months they were threatening to drop my claim and leave me with it, even with a couple dealers telling them that if they could fine a Chevy- ANY Chevy- with my miles, in whatever condition/configuration, for that price, they would buy them all day long. And the comparable vehicles they found were all higher-mileage, busted-up ones, and said the ones I found with my miles and options were not representative of what I had, or too far away. I don't see how an hour and a half, today, is too far to go to look at a truck.

I should have got a lawyer involved, and had my phone not deleted that first message after 30 days, I would have.

Must have needed the extra cash for that NASCAR sponsorship deal they had just signed.

They also screwed my uncle when my cousin was born, he was headed home for evening chores and a drunk with a history of pulling out in front of people and suing for injuries, did it to him, and instead of fighting it they paid the claim. Said my uncle had too much air in his tires, which he did, 41 instead of 35 PSI, but that much difference can just about be accounted for on a hot day after airing up in the cool of the morning and parking on asphalt all day.

Once my grandmother dies, it will be the end of our family doing any business with nationwide.

My F350 with dump bed costs more that F250 pu thru State Farm and I only put 1-2k miles on F350 (71 model) Switched to Am Fam with the F350 and saved $104 every 6 mos.,but they couldn't beat St Farm for all vehicles.

25 year member of USAA, good insurance if you can get it. However they are snarky about some things, redline big time and have transitioned away from some of the off mainline insurance used to do making one stop shopping with them impossible if you get into business coverage or unusual stuff. The price we pay for growth.
