new cas container

had to get a new gas container (plastic) is there any good way to lock that dog gone safety spigot dang thing has a safety spring. I know about gas fumes I'm 65.

I hate those new cans to but with a name like fireball maybe you should leave as is lol.

I can't comment as to the cause of these new spouts, and non
vented cans. I use the old style chilton and sears plastic cans, and I
say molon labe a lot!

Well, I grew up using the recycled, 5 gallon, metal motor oil cans from the oil companies. Worked good, never leaked, and were not a problem.

I can't get over the price of the new ones. Just the plain jane ones are $19-$24.

I needed one, saw the prices, then went up to farm and started digging old, dirty ones out of corners and cleaning them up.

Unfortunately, we cannot legally purchase non-compliant "gas spouts" in NY state. These people could be in a heap of hurt if they tried to ship them to me.

Go to one of the Racing Supply companies, SUMMITT
etc. and look for the 5 gallon fuel jugs. They may seem a little pricey but they will hold up in great shape for a long time, they have a large spout on the top of them. I still have two of them for almost 20 years or more.

You ever go to Canada? Wal-Mart still sells Wedco jerry cas with vents. The ventless jerry cans(not even the CARB crap) take nearly 5 minutes to empty. Add a vent and it takes about 1 minute. I've never had the pleasure of using a CARB gas can, but I've heard nothing but bad about them.

The "twist-lock" on the new one I bought a couple of weeks ago wouldn't work. No matter which way I twisted it, the fuel wouldn't come out. I just take the spout off and use a long transmission funnel if I'm putting it in a vehicle. Otherwise, I've got a nice one with a cylindrical top that doesn't splash all over for the lawn mower, etc.

Caught my wife trying to work it to put gas in the lawn mower. She was cussing and fuming until I showed her the funnel. That's our government: trying to protect us from ourselves when there's no good reason to. As far as I'm concerned, they could abolish the entire EPA and I wouldn't miss it.

I have a non-vented one. I just drilled a hole were the vent should be and pushed a tire valve stem in it remove the valve in the stem and use the little black cap to seal your gas. Mine seals and works better then the old cans.

(quoted from post at 13:01:58 06/17/13) hey, I like that idea.
es, disabled the nozzle contraption (now acts just like old nozzles of yesteryear) and drilled & added tire valve. Love it!

I buy the ones with the straightest nozzle I can. A piece of 3/8" round bar "punches" the safety right out of it.

Drill vent as needed...

I've got 1 gal safety cans to spare. Free to good home. Wife's car is known to spontaneously run outta gas

My local Stihl dealer sells the "No-Spill" brand. I purchased one this spring and so far it's working out ok. They have push button that's inline with the nozzle. If you want to watch a video of the product, their website is Nospill.com

Refurbish your old cans or find some of the old style metal or plastic cans at a yard sale and get new nozzles here:

That's what I did. If you buy three, they are $10 each delivered. That's not cheap but the new cans aren't either.

I clean the 2.5 gal, wide mouth no spout pesticide containers. Use with a funnel. No cost, empty in 20 seconds, do not leak, easy to lift and carry. Cons? People keep asking me for some.

I got a little p.o at the gas can. I got some needle nose pliers and took out a short piece of plastic(white) then folded the other piece into a U and the red thing came off the spring came out. Then I put a piece hose over the spout. carved a chunk of wood shoved that into the rubber. Drove a sheet metal screw up by the handle for a vent. The reason they call me fireball the guy I was working with turned on a electric panel I was working on. I punched him in the nose. And he said he's a real fireball name stuck.

Good Idea, I put a radiator drain valve on mine, tap with a 1/4 npt, and screw it in. Works great. $2.99 at Fleet Farm
