Bee Spray A Tool ?

I have bees boring holes in the rafters of my boathouse. It looks like someone was using the boat seats for sawhorses.

I've tried using the usual plant pesticides mixed in a pump sprayer. Works for a short time, then the sawdust appears again.

Is something I could paint on the pine boards. Sure getting tired of shopvac duty every week. Boards are not treated lumber, just pine.

I have HEARD that hummingbird feeders will do the trick on getting rid of those dang bees. The feeders attract the birds....the birds either kill or drive away the bees. Have not tried it myself YET....but intend to do so!

Tom,

Carpenter bees are about gone for this year, so factor that into what ever you try. Have been dealing with them for years. Finally resided the house leaving no exposed wood. Now they work on my barn that is made of native materials. Good luck.

I've had them for years in my overhangs. I used to get up there with a ladder and spray Malathion with a hand sprayer. It doesn't take much to kill them but they're back in a couple of years. They seem to prefer the east and south sides.
I also have mummingbirds around, don't seem to bother the bees.

Try forcing a mothball into each hole you see, with a bamboo pole. the smell will kill them, if they are in the hole, and deter more from drilling.

i use wd40 with a spray straw. place tip in hole, then push into the hole at a 90 degree turn to the left for about 1.5 inches. 1 squirt will kill them or bring them out and then easy to kill.

I have hummingbird feeders out and by mid July the yellowjackets are chasing the hummingbirds away from feeders. Carpenter bees may be different.

Our hummingbird feeders don't seem to deter carpenter bees. I haven't seen as many this year. I keep a badminton racket on the deck. You get the picture.
