Allis chain saw

Found a old ac saw it does not have a chain. Has look like a cross cut blade that goes back and forth. What was saw used for. Looks like a regular chain saw motor. The model is 65 serial is 1378.. How old is this saw and the saw say blade saw. Thanks.

Wright is right! They were an early reciprocating saw. Not a real barn burner of an idea. I've seen a couple, never used one. I was not aware Allis ever marketed any of them. If it's a for sure original, not some AC stickers pasted on a Wright, then you might have a collectors item.

I don;t know where my AC book by Wendell is, but you might take a gander and see if he lists it.
