Distributor question

To lube up the advance in a distributor I need to go
down the tube below the rotor and take out a outside
snap ring that has two pegs sticking up. Is there a
special tool for this. If so what is it called. Or
is there another method to remove that snap ring?

I am working on a mechanical advance distributor,
but would assume even a vacuum advance distributor
works the same way.

BT,DT. Grab on of the little prongs with a skinny needle-nose and rotate and tug upward.

Bob, that is what I did on that Ford industrial that you helped me on a couple of weeks ago. I came a hog's breath of losing that snap ring. I can do that again and be more careful. At that time I was afraid of distorting the snap ring and did not want to try and find a replacement.

I just thought there was a snap ring pliers with concave tips that had a special name.

I thought most all distributors were built the same
way so tractors would have the same mechanical
advance. I might should have posted this on the
stationary engine forum, but do not know if the
tractor guys go there.

Bob, The distributor is all apart cleaned up centrifugal advance all lubed up. Now I am trying to put the snap ring on the shaft. It is a 7/16 hole and 1 and a 1/4 inches down to where the snap ring goes on. Haven't had any luck so far but should get it.

Be nice to have a tool. I know if I did this for a living I would have a tool of some sort.

All done Bob, I am not sure there is room for a tool in that tube. When they assembled that distributor they used something besides scewdrivers and needle nose pliers. Thanks
