NH 688 Baler

Glen, I had trouble one time with my baler doing that. One of my belts was longer than the others. It was the middle belt. Something you could check on? Hope this helps. Bob

I have worked on some Hesstons and a New Holland 634, so am not an expert. The small Hesstons have a rubber roller with 'crowns' molded into it to keep the belts tracking properly. I cannot remember what the 634 used for tracking. I does use 7 inch wide belts with very little cleareance between belts. Is the 688 similar?

It's mt son's baler, I will talk to him in the
morning and answer your questions. I appreciate all
of your responses.

You didn't say how many bales it had baled. I would look in the book and see how long the belts were supposed to be. Then cut them off and relace them. Not that hard. Then remember flat belts crowd the tight. My son did this to his Gehl baler and made it good as new.

If it's like the 654/664, tracking is adjusted via the rear most lower roller and possibly the roller below that. LITTLE MOVEMENT IS NEEDED!!! Don't make big adjustments. If adjustment of those two rollers doesn't correct the tracking, then you have to start flipping belts and changing positions until it tracks straight. Depending on how many bales in has made, the belts may have stratched. If you have tried the other approaches to fixing the problems, remove one and measure it. I don't have a clue how long they should be, my FSM only goes up to 664. Call you dealer for this information. If you cut them to shorten them, they must be cut SQUARE and the more accurate the length, the better, meaning get all 8 the same length.

I have a NH 688 and on the back there is a guide that is used to keep the belts tracking correctly. That guide wears if the belts are not tracking correctly, by looking at the guide you can tell which belts are not tracking correctly. If all belts are not tracking correctly then you can adjust lower rollers to correct, if only one or two belts are not tracking correctly then I would check the length of the offending belts against the specs.
