The ABS light on my jeep came on yesterday. has anyone had any experience with this or knows anything about it? I tried to get it scanned at advance auto but they only scan for check engine lights. a scanner that will scan for ABS cost $200+ dollars so that is out of the question right now. any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It can mean several things. Check the connection of the sensors. Beyond that and you pretty much need a code. Does a local auto parts store have a scanner they will use to check the codes? Means a potental parts sale for them.

Start by checking fluid level and your shoes and pads. The abs light comes on for most any brake problem.

Probably a bad sensor, or sometimes connection at sensor get corroded and needs cleaned. Sensor is cheaper than paying $200 for test.

You need a code so you know what your chasing. Usually it's a sensor on the wheel like the others have said. Find a reputable shop and pay them $25-$50 to scan it and tell you which wheel it is. Then inspect wiring and connectors. If all checks out then replace the sensor.

Daughters 99 Cherokee was a broke wire on the left rear. Wire was unprotected (from where it came thru the floor pan under rear seat) to the sensor. Looked like something flew up from road and crushed it. Got lucky on that 1, it was the first wheel I pulled to check. Good luck.

Hey Frank.

Probably the quickest test for the abs light is to jack the front end up and grab one of the front wheels. On 4wd any play will cause the sensor to be out of alignment and trigger the light.

The fix is to replace the wheel bearing, and on the Jeep I am pretty sure it is only available in a hub assembly.
