Rust prevention spray....

Anyone ever use motorcycle chain lube as rust preventative on cars or trucks? I need to protect some already rusty suspension components where I cannot remove the rust before treating it. Chain lube is thick and sticky.

I posted a follow up yesterday to using chain lube for sheet metal rust prevention. It has worked great for me. I applied WD-40 first to displace any moisture that was in there. follwed the next day be aerosol chain lube. Two years and no advancement of rust.

I have had pretty good results, so far, for 2 years spraying 15w40 in a paint spray gun on 3 frames and under 3 pickup bodies. Sprayed about a quart on each vehicle. I plan on spraying mineral spirits and pressure washing anywhere that I need to work. My hope is that hand cleaner will be cheaper than rust repair!

I just pressure wash and spary on Rustoleum rusty metal primer. A couple of coats and good to go.

Good day,
The best thing I have used is wool wax. You can buy it as fluid film in a spray can or by the gallon. It won"t harm paint and is non toxic.

I just bought some Fluid Film to do underneath of my 06 GMC that has some surface rust. Quite a few guys swear by it here in Maine. I haven't used it yet.

Drain oil cut with diesel till it will spray. I use a siphon type spray wand I got at some yard sale. I get under and try and soak everything down good. Seems to work fine, sure gets rid of squeaks in leaf springs.

The auto body supply gave me a free can of that and told me to try it and get back to them. It smells horrible but works really great on protecting against rust. As a penetrating oil it is too thick ,but for raw metal stored outdoors it is great. The best feature is the little spray tube is retained in the cap so it doesn't get lost. Seems to be good stuff.

The chain lube that is a wax should work well, but expensive. LPS cold galvanize works well on bare metal that you don't mind painting

What you call wool wax is that a product made from the lanolin in sheeps wool? I was considering to use such a fluid for spraying on machines after pressure washing them but I've never heard anyones experience. Does it leave a sticky surface or does it refuse dirt and dust?

I used some Fluid Film when I plated the chassis of my F150.Sprayed the chassis and the plates. There are shops that spray chassis with Fluid Film. Its expensive stuff.B&L auto in Bangor seems to have the best price.Rocker panels were gone on my son in laws Chevy at 144,000.I notice the tube cross members on GM trucks are full of salt and sand.I told him to wash the tubes out 2 years ago.Took a look at the truck a few days ago.He didnt bother. My son has an 06 GMC, he wont take a few minutes to hose them out. These tubes have a high failure rate. Some plastic plugs would stop the rust out.Ive got some drain out hydraulic oil that Ill spray on the Ford.Dosent stink like drain oil.
